Dennis Lin reports the news from San Diego California the San Diego Padres have designated for assignment former San Francisco Giants and Chicago White Sox catcher Hector Sanchez, 26. Sanchez started his career in the Major Leagues with the San Francisco Giants in 2011. Sanchez became a free agent at the end of the 2015 baseball season. The Chicago White Sox signed Sanchez to a minor league contract on December 14, 2015. Sanchez made the team at the start of the 2016 baseball season before he was designated for assignment by the White Sox in the second week in May. Sanchez was the third string catcher on the Padres behind Christian Betancourt and Derek Norris. The Padres will replace Sanchez on their 25 man roster by promoting from their AAA minor league team the El Paso Chihuahuas infielder and outfielder Ryan Schimpf who has spent eight seasons in the minor leagues.

I never heard of Sanchez but at 26 he will probably be picked by another team and placed in the minors as catchers are in demand depth wise.

Sanchez was a backup catcher for the Giants during his time with the team.
