Udta Punjab which literally translates into Punjab on a high(funny how naive I was at first to think it's going to be a movie based on Punjab's progress Lol) released yesterday after being involved numerous controversies including the Censor Boards recommendation of 89 cuts in the movie. The high court finally passed an order to release the movie with a very few cuts. So the movie got an overwhelming response from throughout the country. Is it just a hype? Absolutely NOT! It's a movie which showcases the mirror reality of our society. It's both very realistic and relatable. The plot of the movie revolves around the drug related problems arising in Punjab and how the youth of Punjab is devastated by substance abuse and how it is in turn ruining Punjab. It also shows how drug dealing is done straight up under the nose of police forces and the political nexus of manufacturing and supplying of drugs. The protagonist of the movie Shahid Kapoor a 22 year old Pop-Star is a youth icon, promoting substance abuse amongst the youth. Alia Bhatt the leading lady accidently gets involved in drug dealing. The other two leads Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor are shown combating the situation.Though all the actors did an outstanding job Alia Bhatt surprisingly stole the show. She completely nailed it! The entire movie is made in combination Hindi and Punjabi language. Though there are English subtitles available for the ease of understanding for people having no knowledge of the above two languages. Personally for me I didn't had any problems whatsoever understanding the language. My personal opinion on the movie is that it shouldn't have been released with 'A' certificate instead it should have been released with "U/A" certificate as it is the Adolscents of age ranging from 13-18 years who get carried away and get caught up in substance abuse, this movie could have been an eye opener for them. In short the movie is one pot stew of Addiction of drugs amongst youth, corrupt system, dirty politics, detoriating condition of our society, and some shrewd and and evil acts done with women. I would rate the movie 4.5/5. -0.5 for the ending. The ending was abrupt and could have been better. But nevertheless it's an amazing movie and definitely worth the hype! Go watch it over the weekend, I promise you wont regret it!

okay, i can understand hindi to some extent but cant understand punjabi. I have to make sure if subtitles are available in any multiplex here, only then i can watch the movie. Lot of hype was created about this movie, it is reported that piracy version was released before the movie released and the censor board issues..

Subtitles should be available. They were available here so they should be available at other places too! After the disappointment of Housefull 3 and Conjuring 2 this movie was a good break!
