And BOOM into Space...!

June 23, 2016 2:41am CST
A proud moment for every Indian out there as our very own ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) set a terrific record of injecting a total of 20 satellites into space in a matter of 24 minutes. The PSLV C34 made a dash for the space even as it carried 17 different satellites from different countries like the US, Germany and Russia along with three satellites of its own. 1.2 billion people watched with bated breath as the whole operation was broadcasted live and ISRO achieved this magnificent feat which in turn has casted India now as a major key player in global space market. @shivmani10 Sure sir. I wouldn't mind doing a bit of explaining. The Chandrayaan owing to its superb 'mineral mapping' technology was able to uncover for the first time, traces of water on the surface of moon which was present in the form of crystals. Now this was a ground-breaking discovery. The MARS MISSION has a lot to it. With the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) becoming successful in its very first attempt India was able to register itself with a handful of other countries who have made it to the Red planet. And India also became the first ever nation to achieve success in its very maiden attempt. These aren't just achievements Sir, but they have got real social implications. They are going to impact the lives of us common people in a better way. For instance, the satellites installed into the Earth's orbit by ISRO (like the recent CARTOSAT-1) are going to help us get better navigation, picture resolution, advance warning before a natural calamity strikes and so forth. A lot of money goes into it, agreed, but we need capital to rescue our magnificent country from decaying into an invalid nation and we need our scientists to keep reminding us every now and then that it is the 21st century that we are dwelling in. I hope I helped put your queries to rest Sir. Many more success to India.Thank You.

@The_Bong_Woman My concern is not against SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY, but for MISSION MARS AND CHANDRAYAN. The "Finding the traces of water on the surface of the moon" how would it be useful to the Indian context is the point now? The achievement of MARS Mission WAS appreciated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister. He informed that this has been achieved incurring a minimum expenditure of 247crs which will be approximately Rs.7/- per /k.m travelling in an Auto. This is not clear how the comparison is relevant to the present state of Indian Economy. This amount could have been spent well on many social service schemes. If this has been for satellite technology the benefits would have been many. I do not want to club it again to the Indian Economy. But, discussing the relevance of the Mission Mars only. This amount could well have been spent on improving at least a small village notifying it as a model village. Things will develop and conditions can be improved in a night. You are most welcome if you have any other reasons in your support so that I can keep them in mind whenever such things happen again. I also made a comment on the same issue in FB.

@shivamani10 I understand your concerns Sir, and I fully agree with you. For a plural and overpopulated country like India, where social injustice and inequality is rampant, there are a multiple number of pressing matters at hand that require immediate attention, granted. But focusing singularly on just the social issues, I personally feel, is not going to help. While we absolutely can not afford to let our scientific community lag behind, our scientists have taken a great deal of care to ensure that not too much money is 'wasted', I take the liberty to use that word here although it's highly improper, into their projects. India has been accomplishing its cosmic feats at a very cheap rate. The money hence saved is added to the cash pile of the nation which then can be utilised by the government to fund it's various social schemes. Focusing on the Social realm does not essentially entail isolation of the scientific sphere. Both can work hand-in-hand and help each other develop. Problems indeed are many but there are solutions too. I am pretty sure and I believe you will agree with me Sir, that if we come together, unite and collaborate then we can find the solutions to the biggest problems, come what may.

@Shiva49 Absolutely agreed Sir! We were the greatest upholders of the intellectual tradition but due to inevitable circumstances, history took a turn for the worse and we ended up garbing ourselves in the darkness of superstitions and blind beliefs. But now the old tradition is being revived again. The intellect is on the rise and our hardworking scientists deserve due credit for it.
