A few weeks ago, @JohnRoberts posted a new wave song, and @FourWalls and myself jumped on the bandwagon with new wave discussion's of our own. I figured that I'd try to keep things going with the occasional new wave post. Holly (Holly Beth Vincent) and the Italians formed in Los Angeles in 1978, and won over the critics with their 1980 single "Tell that Girl to Shut Up," which was then included on their 1981 album, The Right to be Italian (which featured a few standouts: Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads, and Paul Schaffer and Anton Fig from David Letterman's band. ) The song was popular in England, and was later covered by Transvision Vamp, who turned it into a minor hit both in Britain and in the States. And while the song was perfect for Transvision Vamp vocalist Wendy James, it's the Holly and the Italians original that does it for me. "Tell that Girl to Shut Up" is a classic new wave tune. Enjoy!

I am surprised that a LA new wave band was not played on KROQ who basically broke all locals.

She did move to England at one point, although you'd think they'd play them anyway, being from LA and all.
