Barefooted in the park

rain

SPOILER ALERT: No, its not anything as romantic. The weather is alternating between sweltering heat and rain and yet more rain. This calls for a special type of footwear that can weather the weather. The best bet are those plastic slippers which make great sales in the rainy season. Leather is an absolutely stupid choice. The former ones are hard on my feet, so I compromise by taking out my old leather ones which I mend and keep for the monsoons. Yesterday, while walking back home, I did step into many puddles which I couldn’t avoid. All at once, I saw my bare right foot stepping out of the slipper. The top half had come unstuck. There was no way a safety pin (very useful things to have around) could mend the situation. Some people across the street were looking on with interest. I was beginning to feel very foolish and then decided to follow the maxim”Offense is the best form of defense.” I picked up both my slippers, gave them a friendly wave with my umbrella and walked right across a soggy field (!) to my house. The bonus was a hot water soak to get rid of the dirt but turned out to be a relaxing treat too. And when I give the wayward pair to my friendly neighbourhood cobbler he is going to employ his skills and make them as right as rain! What about you ? Did ever face such a situation? photo: free photo from pixabay

I use rain boots, it's not safe to walk with slippers in my country, you have plenty of up and down hills, you need good shoes.

You do need good walking shoes for the places i've seen on your posts. Shoes are too hot for summer here.

I was in a monsoon in Hong Kong. Crossing the street to go shopping, my pretty little Gucci sandal slipped off my foot in a giant puddle. My husband retrieved it for me. Now, I only buy rain boots, all knee high, for any rainy day.

@responsiveme They are! They are less expensive than leather boots and don't get ruined or leak at all.

That's nice and I love it too. But the grass has to be short so we can't miss any creatures hiding in it.

Heavy rain suddenly poured down last week and I am wearing a rubber shoes. I am walking to a pavement that I 'think' shallow and when I am on the middle of the road I saw my shoes half submerged. I started to run and jump off to the road. Haha! Now I do not underestimate those puddles.

oh dear, i'm glad that'cha carried off such with grace :) i'd not 'xpect any less from ya'n jest the short time i've 'known' ya here. bet that foot soak did feel wonderful'n hopefully somethin' yer gonna start doin''n a more regular basis. i've a rather embarrassin' tale i'll share with ya, though such don't involve mud 'n shoes, lol. some years back, i was out checkin' cattle when i felt somethin' crawlin' 'round my skin...'nder my shirt. i dunno 'bout most folks, but i don't care fer such'n promptly yanked said shirt off. 'twas a wasp, which thankfully didn't bite me. once i'd calmed down from such'n event, convinced my trusted steed that i'd not gone off the deep-end, i noticed 'something' 'n my peripheral vision. 'twas 'n ol' fella who'd apparently bought the property back 'hind my place. he was buildin' a fence 'n enjoyin' my "side show", coz he 'twas grinnin' from ear to ear! thankfully i'd worn a bra that day (most of i don't), so's he didn't get the full view.

Once, a few years ago, I was with my mother at the super when my feet started to hurt. I wanted to cry out of pain, yet there was nothing to do. But on second thought, there was. I asked my mother for permission, took off my shoes and felt like heaven walking barefooted in the cold floor. I placed the shoes in the cart and did not mind the eyes of other ladies.

Next time remember to take a kerchief with you. Comes in handy to tie your broken slipper around your foot. How do I know? I have done that

I'm very much a bare-footed person, whenever I can get away with it! Going bare feet in such circumstances would be considered quite natural here in NZ

The streets are dirty so we cannot go barefooted . Thats for holidays in beaches and yes in parks and lawns. But again they have to be well maintained ones because otherwise there may be snakes

Not since I was a child. I remember when the local meadow flooded we children loved to run into it and feel the submerged grass under our feet.

That was fun. Yes, its still nice to walk barefooted on the grass. In fact there is a person I know who walks barefoot on the grass first thing in the morning for health reasons. But in my case the field wasn't all that clean.

Water can easily damage footwear; so it is better to use those that are made of sutiable materials like rubber or plastic. Well, never mind the people, as long as you can walk barefoot, it is none of their business. But like here in our country, some people will find it funny and laugh.
