The small town I live in has a shortage of apartments and homes for rent and/or for sale. The city is looking at places to buy that can be turned into apartments. I understand one of the properties is the old hospital building which is being used for disabled and people with mental problems. The problem is the building is so old and I think they would be better building new structures which would be less costly then redoing the old hospital building. There are some new companies coming into this area and they will need housing for their employees at an affordable price. The picture is of The feed store and quilting shop (no not for sale)

I have to agree. If the building has a historic interest I can understand the reason to keep it. I do not think that redoing the old hospital is money wise.

@LadyDuck It is not of historic interest exactly and would take a lot to revamp it.

@LadyDuck I also think that it would be better to build new rather than renovate the old building.

@Marcyaz In this case it's much better to build a new structure, it's surely less expensive.

That is too bad there is so few homes for sale and rent in your area. Here is the exact opposite. Everyone seems to be moving out of town lately and moving south.

@shaggin Why are people moving out of town? Here we could use some of those homes you have there.

@shaggin Yeah a lot of people here have to drive about 35 minutes or 1 hour for their job although they do have some opening here and new buisnesses are coming in.

@Marcyaz I'm really not sure. I think because trying to find a job here is so hard. You have to drive an hour one way usually to find a good one.

They are also non stop building here in this big city though Marcy. New properties are needed as people are flocking here. I hope they can build new properties there where you are instead of using old buildings.

I do think it is a good idea when a city or a town uses older , no longer used buildings and converts them into apartments for lower income people. It gives the building a second life while helping people have more affordable places to live.

@LeaPea2417 They already have enough apts for the lower income people and don't need any more.

@LeaPea2417 Yes and we do need new housing in our area and soon because of the new businesses being built here will need housing for their workers.

Love the photo and like the idea of quilts and feed store are together. I like the idea of redoing the old. I've seen some fantastic apartments made from old buildings.

Everything here in the way of stores has two different businesses in there. The DMV has a jewerly store in with it and the newspaper office shares with a computer repair company. lol lol

@PainsOnSlate It still seems strange to me as I have lived mostly in suburbs of very large towns and the small towns I have lived in before were not like that.

They have turned both of our old hospitals into apartments...one is pretty "ghetto", but the other one is super nice.

Sometimes it's a cheaper option to build new rather than try and renovate what's already there.

Renovating old buildings into condos seem to be a popular way to go these days

@Marilynda1225 AS this is such an old building I am not sure it would be profitable to do so.

I do like to see regentrification of old buildings. It increases jobs and makes the towns prettier. I hope they find a place for those in that hospital.

@DianneN We shall have to wait and see what they decide whether to renovate or build new housing but they need to do something and not take all year to do it.

I hope they can figure something out. Not everyone can afford to buy a house.

It seems that population in your place is growing, just like in any other places where living accommodations get rare or very costly.

Really? Well, I have a house here that I inherit from my parents and I renovated it and made it into apartments for rent. This is my other source of income. I hope your city can build new apartments for the people to live.

Looks like your small town is going to be expanding soon! I hope they can get some new housing in soon!
