Blogging and Web Hosting

I have been having a great interest in the idea of having a blog since I started to travel. I would like to document all the memories and write down the things that inspire me which are reading and travelling. My friend suggested me that if I am serious in having a blog, I should make use of wordpress dot org, get a domain name, and look for a web host. We tried to search online last night where I could buy a cheap domain and also hosting. There were some which offer free hosting and domain for one year and I just have to pay for set up fee. Then, if I want to continue the next year, I have to pay already for both domain and hosting. Have you tried buying your own domain and paying for web hosting? I would like to know more suggestions about those two things which I considered important factors in blogging. Have a nice day to all! Happy Mylotting!

I tried it once, it wasn't worth it for me. You have a better idea of what you want with it, so I wish you lots of luck.

@Bluedoll Yes, that is my intention that is why I want to buy a domain of my own. I will pay for it so I want to give my best for it. And besides, I would like to be an online freelancer in the future. I think that having my own blog will help me attain my goal. It will serve as my online portfolio.

@annierose making me think if you pay for something you will be maintaining it. I've done the same thing, you are not alone.

You can always use blogger dot com. It's free and will get you started. Remember to save all your work to your own computer or backup somewhere. Having your own domain though has advantages but it is a cost advantage to have previous content to put on it immediately? I wonder what anyone reading this thinks about that last sentence

I have my articles saved on my computer. I think the difference between a blogger and a wordpress is the number of views it can get?

@Bluedoll At present, I am just concentrating on the contents. I am not that techie enough to put up my own blog. I always need someone to help me doing it. Are you paying for domain and hosting?

@annierose As far as I understand any website over time will get traffic and that is dependent on how popular it is. A complete topic by itself. I've tried wordpress. It allows for management of your pages. How much are you interested in design and webpage in's and out's or do you only want to concentrate on content, i mean the writing parts?

@annierose Yes, I do have a blog, both wordpress and blogspot. blogger is free, reliable, and enough to publish your personal stuff on the web but if you intend to be a serious blogger then yes selfhosted WordPress is really good but it is not free.

Yes, some suggested it. But majority of what I have read think that wordpress dot org is the best platform in blogging. By the way, do you also have a blog of your own?

Thank you so much! I hope I can travel for a long term but I cannot do that because my mom will definitely worry on me if I will not be in our house for more than a month. I think it will be a lifestyle blog.

@SIMPLYD She cannot. She is afraid of heights and not that strong enough to travel.

I had my own domain from Yahoo long time ago. It was only for fun. Expensive but it was the easiest I know there are cheap ones but seems complicated for me.

@annierose I only have free blogs from Blogger and Wordpress.com to start a good blog and earn, we need at least 30-50 high quality articles. It would take years for me to write them and I don't think I could maintain a website

I'm also planning before to buy my own domain but it keeps on changing mind because doing this thing requires investment before profit but the nice in here is, it'll be long term earnings

I am thinking of buying my own domain and then look for a free hosting company. Paying for both domain and hosting cost and arm and leg for me.

Thanks @Macarrosel! Blogging is something that I had been doing ever since I started teaching but because of conflicting schedules, I could not maintain. I love to blog because it motivates me to write more which I think is good.
