Last goodbyes

I went to my old house today for what I believe is the last time. Of course, you never know. But I had a list of things I needed to take from the house and I got them all. I sat in my old bedroom for quite a while looking at the remnants of so many memories. When we first moved into the house, I was 5 years old. That bedroom was mine and my sister's bedroom. Oh how we tortured one another in that room! And when my sister got married, I had the room to myself for a while until she and her husband and their first baby moved back to RI and had nowhere to live. They moved into that bedroom until they found a house of their own. When I moved to CT, after my father passed away, my mother moved into that bedroom. She couldn't bear the sad memories of my father in their old bedroom, so when I moved back to RI to care for Mom, I was put into her old bedroom! lol And then I met my Britt. When we got married, we were in Mom and Dad's bedroom until after Mom passed away. That bedroom was larger, so we donated all the bedroom furniture from both bedrooms, bought our own bedroom set and we moved into that room. And we were there until he passed away. I just sat in there today watching all the memories fly by. I didn't cry but I got a little choked up. Can't help that. And then I went into the kitchen and said my goodbyes and wished a wonderful life to the new family that moves in. I have no idea what happens next. I guess I'll wait for the paperwork that will tell me that the house has officially been sold. But for now, the moving into this place is officially finished. I'm a little down about the whole thing and I'm sure that's normal. My life has been in an upheaval for a very long time. Now I need to figure out where I go next. -Claudia- my photo of me and Britt in front of the house (before renovations)

Maybe the good thing is-none of us have any idea what will happen next! Perhaps being in your new space will help you decide what you want to do.

I hope so. I feel so uncomfortable with my life right now and that's a completely new feeling for me. So here's hoping.

My only wish for the rest of my life is to find one or two really good friends with whom I can visit and share life and laughs. That would do nicely. Beyond that, I'm actually pretty good.

I know, it's pretty funny, right? when I really sat and thought about all that happened in that one room I was surprised. I'd never thought about it like that before.

@CRK109 Things do happen like that with the least of expectation. It's nice though to have memories of yesteryears once in a while. It reminds us of who we are and where we came from :)

Yes, my parents bought the house when I was only 5 years old. It's been like another member of the family. Thank you for your kind words.

That is a lifetime of memories for you, and your family under that roof. You will always have your memories and now maybe you will begin to feel a little more settled after you've said your good byes at the house and closed that part of your past so that it is not a place to visit physically so much now but in memories. You make a nice looking couple standing here.

bless yer heart, ms. claudia. i feel similar thoughts 'bout mamaw's lil house. sometimes i cannot bear to enter the door, the flood'f memories too much. so 't sits there'n silence. they say that's one door closes, 'nother opens. one's jest the need to see the signs 'nstead'f holdiln the past so near that they're blinded.

Great memories, I was there with you while you were telling us about it. I didn't realize you were brought up and raised in that house that you shared with your Britt. How awesome is that? I'd love to go back and walk through the home that my dad built and added on to when more siblings kept coming their way. I can look at the outside, but it's never came up to check it out again. Change is good, but it can be difficult to close that chapter of our lives for the final time. I hope your home sells to a family that will take care of it as well as you have through the years.

I was feeling a bit sad reading your post .. Why do you have to sell the house? .. I think if I were you, I would stay there until the end of my days.. Maybe I'm just feeling this way because i've never had a home when I was a child.. I kind of envy you that you had that . It must be awesome experience as a child to be safe in a home with your family .. Lovely photo of you and Britt

I was sad while reading your post. You had a lot of memories there. If was the one who owns the house I won't sell it due to the memories left behind in that house. Well, good to know you started new memories in your new house and that's great. By the way, you're house was still nice even if it was not yet renovated in the photo.
