Motorbikes, good or bad?

Soo! since I am going to get a motorbike I would like to know whats good and bad, what kind of bike should I get if I want it to go fast but at the same time I want to be able to cruise around on it for a longer time and after the summer I am going to be using it to get to and home from school almost everyday so I don't want it to be super expensive to ride it, do you guys have any suggestions on what's good? :))

Motorbike like the big bikes? ducati or the harleys. Got no idea. What we have here are only motorcycles specially underbones. Its rare to see big bikes here. They are good though for short distance travel.
