My seventeen year old daughter loves reading but as our local library has recently closed she's finding it harder to keep her bookcase stocked with a selection of reading material. I've been saying for a while that she should start having a look in charity shops but she obviously hadn't got around to it - so this morning we decided to pop in and have a look to see what we could find on our way back from doing some early morning errands. It's fair to say she got a bit excited and bought a total of 15 paperbacks, plus a couple of very cheap X-Box games - she couldn't believe how much she could save by buying books from this kind of shop and as you're buying what other people have donated there's always an eclectic selection. I bought myself a couple of paperbacks plus three for my nine year old who is currently trying to read a wider variety of books after getting caught up with Diary of a Wimpy Kid and various David Walliams books. One of the books I bought for her today is by Jo Nesbo, who I've heard is a really good kids author. For my five year old I picked up a copy of the Brother Bear DVD which I'm sure he'll love when he gets back from school. Do you like shopping in charity shops/thrift stores?

I love shopping in thrift shops and even yard sales for books as you never know what you will find there. I have even seen brand new books for something like 25 cents as these places.

I've just said to my partner that I might pop down to a car boot sale and have a look at the books over the weekend @Marcyaz

We do not have many thrift shops here, there are antique books shops, but they are usually pretty expensive

@chrisandmark I would be pleased to sell them some old books, more than to buy.

I can imagine @LadyDuck - I popped into an antique book shop a couple of days ago but didn't buy anything as the prices were so high!
