There are times when looking at a photograph brings forth a poem. This was one of those times. The Road The road goes right on over the hill. Straight's an arrow, straight until you near the top where clouds are flying, muscles hurting, almost crying. Looking back, and like as not, you marvel at how far you've got. The rocks and dust have had their day. Tomorrow brings some more this way. Up and down the road will bend. The sun beats hot quite without end. You started there and ended here, but what you seek is never near. Near to where you want to be, and done with all this history, this tale of never reaching places that asks of you - "Are those your traces?". And that's the way of roads and miles, of dust and rocks and hot sun trials, of putting foot in front of toe, of getting near - but more to go. Such is life the way its planned. You walk these long roads through the land. On you go - the road, the sky, the sun that burns. There're reasons why. It's often good to understand why we struggle through this land. but not to know might yet be best, 'til pain is done and so's the test. * * * * * * * * * * Image source: Serif UK Ltd PagePlus X5 DVD - with some editing enhancement by Gus Kilthau * * * * * * * * * *

@softbabe44 - Ms Peggy - That photograph just plain yelled at me to write some stuff, so I did (being afraid of what a strong photo might do to me should I not listen to it.) Thank you for enjoying it. 'Twas fun to scribble it out.

@Ceerios Yes indeed. But writing inspired by looking at a photo is far easier than writing poetry looking at words or even looking at a photo. . Poetry writing. does not come to everyone.

@allknowing - Happy is the writer when the reader has enjoyed. Did this not make you feel good about your having written about the ability of a photograph to inspire some writing?

why run these races indeed - just walk them and take the time to smell the roses!

@Inlemay - Or maybe sit comfortably on the ox cart seat and let the beast do the sweating?
