Recently, The relations between China and Philippine have been deteriorated increasingly. As a Chinese, i can't accept the award by an arbitral tribunal on the South China Sea which is null and has no binding force. My viewpoint may provoke outrage from Filipinos, or Perhaps some Americans. It's a sensitive political topic, for me, a ordinary citizen, just want to express my opinion reasonably. While the tension of international situation haven't affected my daily life, i still deal with office routine as usual. Undoubtedly, we all hope both countries can resolve the dispute and maintain peace and stability. But if the war breaks out, what will you do? Fight for your country, honor, and all the good things?or immigrate to other countries to aviod disaster? China is developing country, yet we will not attach ourself to any big power. What is a great power, i think it will bring happiness and prosperity to the its own people for internal, and bring peace and stability to the people all over the world for external. China still has long way to go...

I do believe the war has already started although it is not a war of force or military strength ( China will suffer greatly if trade sanctions are implemented). But comparing China's military strength to the Philippines we can see a massive difference in both technology and numbers. I can see the Philippines fighting back and when not if when, when China occupies the Philippines we will see the Filipinos fight using hit and run tactics similar to that of the Vietnamese rebels in the Vietnam war and if the Chinese ever choose to oppress the Philippine people we can see the Filipinos resorting to terrorist tactics similar to that of Al Qaeda or ISIS. Why would they resort to terrorism you ask? Because when any nation or people are pushed to the extreme they would not hesitate to go to extreme measures to achieve their goals especially if they are the underdog or have nothing to lose since the Filipinos have lost their country. The Chinese on the other hand will have a lot of saving face and relations to build with the rest of the world since they will probably be ostracized for what they have done. But honestly I think the Chinese are smart enough not to engage in military war currently for the winds of war not in their favor. The Chinese should focus on improving their economy and they will surpass the US in 10-30 years time especially if the US will not change their stupid costly policies and meddling in other countries business (Especially the Middle East and Europe) Sorry for the long comment. :) I just don't war to break out. For it will cause a lot of suffering and pain, not to mention the weapons developed today are for more destructive than the ones we had 80 years ago and it will not only end live on a massive scale it would literally destroy cities!!! Cities that took decades to build will probably be wiped out in months if standard military warfare is used and days if some country is stupid enough to use nuclear weapons. No just NO!!!

@Sun7788 That's why i hate the government for doing this. But I hate our government even more for neglecting it since we had decades of corruption too. I do got a bad feeling it's the US who will benefit the islands but probably a huge theory in mnd.

@Sun7788 Thanks I also agree with you Peace is the best option especially when we have weapons that can kill thousands if not millions of people with a single button. Oh and I'm not saying you will surpass the US in 10-30 years time I meant that China is the most viable country to surpass the US if they play their cards right :) I mean you guys have a good economy going on, too bad most of your hard earned money belongs to the state. :(

Thank you for your objective evaluation and such a long comment. China won't occupy the Philippines in the name of territorial claims of the South China Sea.We are not Fascists and oppose any invasion activities, we just want to safeguard the territorial integrity. Besides, you say Chinese can surpass the US in 10-30 years time...are you kiding? My country is still a developing country, with many serious problems to cope with, such as natural disaster, official corruption, gap between the rich and the poor, etc. You're right, we all cherish peace, we should focus on improving our economy as well as military force. Yet the meaning is different between that we have a sword but don't use and we don't have sword...

The tribunal just threw all the historical evidence out the window & stated that because China signed that UN Law of the Seas agreement, it was null & void. I see that European Tribunal, with an obviously fixed agenda, as a Kangaroo Court. No sane country or individual should recognize such a ruling issued in that manner. Any dispute should be resolved between the two parties concerned without any intervention or pressure from outside. China is the Philippine's biggest trading partner; surely common sense will prevail? Meanwhile, the US Navy is out in force all over the Pacific, suspiciously close to/in Chinese territory, for its stated purpose of "enforcing the Freedom of Navigation Act"... an act which it Never Actually Signed!!! The only excuse they should have to be in the region is to trade. Japan wants the US to leave the area & we're not too happy about them being here either. They can take their nation-destroying TPP & leave us all in peace. Once war breaks out, it will be far too late to immigrate. I'll probably peacefully protest & be jailed for it, as peaceful protests have now been banned in two states. Where will you go to anyway if war breaks out? It will be a World War; nowhere to hide! China might still be a "second-world" country, but is big enough to stand on its own feet & will very quickly overtake all others as the world's #1 economy. China will continue its massive infrastructure development all over the world, the AIIB, the President's massive ongoing campaign to stamp out corruption everywhere & its push for peace in collaborative building projects for the benefit of all people on earth.

@Sun7788 yes... racist Aussie Supermarkets actually banned anyone who looked Chinese from buying quantities greater than one of the powdered milk at the time! I think there is now another product more popular than that even, but I don't recall what it is right now!

You know China pretty well, Thanks again for your support. My deceased grandmother once told me her story about WW2, her village has been burned and many people were massacred. She couldn't find any word to express her thanks to the Communist Party and chairman Mao. These strong feelings i can't feel since i was born in peace time. Although i still have some grumble about my government, i cherish peace and what i have now, i'm proud of my motherland.

@veganbliss What! is that true? Australia is one of my greatly admired countries. Many Chinese immigrated there. My neighbour's son has lived there for 3 years, he enjoyed his comfortable life, better environment, and healthy food. Milk powder, as you know, is always gone in an instant in the Chinese supermarket, so crazy!

I think china exploited the circumstance after world war 2. After the defeat of Japan, china placed itself as a regional power in SE Asia. After ww2 SE Asian countries are not focused on exploring other regions. They are busy building their cities and economy. When PRC took over ROC they started to make claims of the islands without even consulting other nations that time. They just made a map in 1947 and tell their people the SCS is their territory. china has no historical proof that the South China Sea is their territory. The only proof they have is the map they made in 1947.

China doesn't much care what others think. Realistically the only power to match China is the US but how much US debt does China own?? China is the big dog in the region and the only thing that can match it is a bigger dog and the US isn't a bigger dog anymore.

the United States is using the administration of former Philippine President to raise tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. the US is a bigger dog who hype so-called 'China threat' in the west and will benefit most finally.

I just don't like what YOUR government there is DOING. I mean before they made it politicize, our Senator here interviewed a lot of fishermen. Before, chinese, filipinos and other nationalities can fish there and even TRADE! I think all changed when our President Arroyo actually allowed these geo explorations to the islands. I mean, the claim wasn't really that strong until your government found out about the HUGE oil deposits there that made them go AWOL after that coast guard ship arrested some of your fishermen, that started it this collision. But from my point of view here, we in the Philippines had long neglected the so called Western Philippine Sea due to decades of corruption. I mean in those ten years before Arroyo we could have at least built a fortress there and not sitting duck on the old barren ship. Imelda Marcos warned us about this when she was running back in 1990s while participating in a debate. NO ONE CARED, or bothered for that matter. China waited patiently and making itself stronger in those years while we experience decades of corruption and degradation of a once strong nation. Even that we won, what the hell are we going to do with those islands now that we didn't do nothing for the last ten freaking years. Just my opinion though. if the country was not so corrupt, there should have been a millitary outpost there by now. No, I think we screw up big time and now, regardless of the hauges decision, the islands been taken already.

@Sun7788 lol If they want to make contact, they'd be coming here and talking to you the ufo's had been sneaking in and out of the planet w/ no intention of talking/ not even showing much. well, making anti matter energy incraeses the odds of going into space and seeing those stars and planets close. Resources in the South china sea? won't be enough i think unless ten thousand gallons will be use for pure space exploration trouble is that you got US that will try to stop us from making contact and warns of secrecy.

@Sun7788 You know that's even more of a shame to me, we've been colonized by Spain 300 years, and US at least 40 years I think. Aftermath we were once the center of the world, were foreigners wouldn't be ashamed to visit my country and it's landmarks. I can tell you this, after EDSA I the country and it's society has really deteriorated to this point, were no longer that disciplined and civilized as we were before . I don't like watching CCTV, CNN, or even our local channel here because it's just giving out so many negative impact on both chinese and filipinos that been around each other long before the spanish era. Oh, Duterte is no fool, I'm sure he's smart enough to talk to china, not to mention he's a socialist. I wish they are more talks like this so that I don't have to see negative trash talking between chinese and filipinos in social media, were all asians anyways. Maybe China should built their own version of Hadron Collider, you might end up making an anti matter energy that will you unlimited energy for thousands of years. South China sea might hold up thousands of barrel of oil, but it's not gonna last.

@Letranknight2015 Hadron Collider! Sorry for my poor physics knowledge, although i was an engineering science students before. From earliest times to the present day, human's conflict for energy has never cease, South China sea might be microcosm of this. China have built the world's largest radio telescope to explore space, we may make use of immense resource from outer space, exploring new things is better than struggling for old thing...

@Sun7788 As far as I know, the Philippine Government always submits itself to a peaceful negotiation with China. The Philippines has sent representatives to your country to talk about this dispute.

Yeah, we will if the rules are legal. While the Philippine government initiated the arbitration by one side only is non-binding, according to international law, a legal arbitration can be submitted only when the bilateral negotiations failed to settle the dispute. Why does the Philippine government skip the process of peaceful negotiations?
