I was thinking that maybe you should be able to change your first name if you want to when you turn 18! You have lived with the name that you have been given... time to try something else!! Do you think that you should keep what you have, or try something new??

I think if you`ve managed to live with your name for 18 years, sure you can continue doing it.

@Hate2Iron I know a woman who just never uses her real name. She's found a name she likes and hardly anyone outside her family knows that this is not her real name. She uses her real name only in official documents. That could be a solution for you.

I think there is no 'should'. You can change your name if you like, can't you? In Germany it costs something. I'm sure in the USA it's the same.

It's just matter of hurting someone's feelings lol. Yes, I was named after my mother and one little actress. The actress, I don't think would mind... my mom might lol.

After all this time, I wonder how easy it would be to get other people used to a new name?

@Hate2Iron You can try it. It costs you nothing. Your friends will understand you and new acquaintances will learn the new name from the start. When women marry, people are capable of learning the new surname. So why not a first name?
