The Bravery of Pets (or not)

One word I would NEVER use to describe my cat is brave. She's the original "scairdy cat". She came to us when she was 6 months old. She was driven up here from Texas by my in laws, so I know she was never abused or anything. But any little noise or movement makes her jump or run or arch her back. It's just the wildest thing. This evening, I had just come back from getting the mail. In it, was a little package with a gift for my cat. I guess she could smell it, because she came running. I sat at my table (overlooking the carnival) and opened the package. She came up on the table and saw the flashing lights, heard the laughter and screams down below and immediately began growling! We are 13 floors up from all of that, and yet she growled at them for quite some time. And then she jumped off the table to leave. I coaxed her back to give her the gift (a catnip pillow). She liked it but not enough to stay in the same room overlooking "that". So she's now sleeping in the bedroom, ignoring everyone clearly having fun below.
