My date for moving to my new home in Preston is now set, August 9th, so I am now preparing in earnest for going. I announced my pending departure on Facebook and got overwhelming support and assurances that I’ll be missed. I picked up a lovely cutlery set I saw promoted on Freecycle. The lady who offered the knives, forks and spoons was surprised when I turned up as her son, who I had spoken to on the phone hadn’t passed the message on to her, but she was very welcoming and sweet. While she got the cutlery ready for me I sat with her dogs, a timid half-Alsatian and a near-border collie who clearly thought I was his new best friend in the world. I headed into Oldham to look for low cost bargain items for the move, adding a cheap brush & shovel and big plastic bin bags to the growing supplies and spotting one cheap enough, I bought a new wallet too, as my old one is virtually in pieces. Its photo appears here for the last time. It is decorated in movie monster posters but unlike Dracula it didn’t last forever. The new one is quite plain, but it does the job. I got an odd message from Amazon saying some goods I bought were just being despatched though they arrived at the house three weeks ago. Arthur Chappell
