News of the Stupid

Thanks to a post by @JudyEv, I thought of a news story I heard not too long ago that demonstrates how stupid some criminals are. Here's the scoop: A man went in to rob a bank, and picked up a withdrawal slip to write his robbery demands. However, the bank was crowded that day, and he got impatient waiting in line. He left the bank with the robbery note in his hand, and went across the street to another bank. When he handed the bank teller his robbery note, she replied that she couldn't honor his demands because the withdrawal slip he wrote the robbery note on was for the bank across the street, and not for the bank he was currently in. She couldn't accept a competing bank's withdrawal slip. She handed him a blank withdrawal slip, and told the robber that he had to write his robbery note on the proper form. The robber complied, and while he was re-writing his hold-up note, the teller set off the silent burglary alarm. When the robber was finished writing his hold-up note, he presented it to the teller, and she calmly filled a sack with cash. As the robber fled the bank, he ran straight into the arms of the police officers waiting outside for him! Although it could have turned out differently, that was quick-thinking on the part of the bank teller to stall the robber long enough for the police to arrive! Do you know any good stories about criminals and their lack of intelligence?

Good story. Got a chuckle out of it. Another example of "stupid is as stupid does."

We have a local radio station that reads these types of news stories every morning. Apparently, there is no shortage of stupid criminals in the United States!

@moffittjc _No wonder your prisons are overflowing with inmates. The smart ones you find in Wall street.

Now that's good! That teller was smart and calm. Good for her stalling the robber and not allowing him to get away.

@just4him And the dumb ones always get caught! The smart ones work on Wall Street; and the average crooks work in Washington, DC!

@moffittjc Those are average? They seem a bit polished to me. They've had a lot of practice with their trade.

@jaboUK There's quite a few of these hilarious stories! There is a radio station that I listen to every morning when I'm driving to work, and they are always discussing the "news of the stupid!" I usually get a good laugh in the morning when hearing about all the stupid things criminals do!

I had once read another similar news report once where the bank teller told the robber she needed to see his ID since he wasn't a customer of the bank he was robbing, and the stupid criminal actually showed the teller his ID! Needless to say, he was easily arrested after the robbery!

good thing the police arrived in time. i bet the teller was holding her breath after she handed him the sack. it's also good that the robber wasn't armed or decided to shoot it out with the cops.

Statistics show that the majority of bank robbers aren't armed at all. Which, if I was a bank teller, would mean that I would refuse to comply with their demands until such time as they could show me their weapon (most bank tellers are also behind bullet-proof glass, so that makes it even easier to taunt potential bank robbers)! lol

That is SO funny but what quick-thinking on the part of the teller. She was very brave really.

I don't, but I went to my bank one day and found the door locked. I couldn't imagine why the bank was closed, so I drove away. When I heard the news that evening I found I had been there while the bank was being robbed. I was thankful I didn't get there earlier.

I once posted a status on my Facebook page that went something like this: "Just once, I wish my bank would be robbed while I was standing in line to cash a check; that way, I could update my Facebook status repeatedly while the robbery was taking place. That would be epic!"
