My in-laws have one and I have to say that it is really pretty cool. You control it with your tablet, iPad, or presumably phone. It also is voice activated so you can tell it what to do like "turn on, shut down, play Kenny Chesney Radio on Pandora". I've seen them tell it to tell them a joke and tell them the weather. It really is sharp. My husband and I are total gadget people. I can definitely see us buying an Amazon Echo in the near future.
