Do you ever worry that nobody's reading your 'stuff'?

I've been posting on Tripadvisor for several years. It's the site I always go to for travel ideas and advice and so - despite getting nothing back for it - I'm more than happy to contribute reviews for their users. To date I've got just over 400 reviews and I've just been told that they've had a total of over 200,000 reads. So each of those posts gets on average 500 reads. When I'm pottering about in cyberland thinking that nobody's interested and nobody's reading, it's good to know that sometimes the data suggests I'm wrong.

Here you know if people are reading LOL..I do a lot of Amazon reviews some for products I purchased and some for products I received in exchange for an honest review. I know people read them since they can ask questions. I have a few that I did a year or so ago on a product I paid for - I still get questions. I read reviews, especially for vacation rentals that I am considering.

That's not bad at all. Your efforts are not in vain. I have a cooking blog but it is not profitable. It doesn't give me any income at all. I just like to post my successful recipes there now and then. I don't really mind whether there are visitors or not. As sometimes it is just easier for me to follow my recipes whenever I want to cook something. This is why I keep my recipes online. Some days ago I got a comment from a visitor and it is just a nice surprise for me. As I often wonder whether there will be some visitors.

This is quite a coincidence. I just received notification of how many people have read my tips on Tripadvisor too. Helping people is fun.

I think they periodically send out a general message to encourage their contributors as it's not easy to get this info directly on the site. I got a notification, I think , because I'd just got their 200k reads 'badge'.

@boiboing I'm just short of a new badge, so that's probably why I received mine.

I always intend to write reviews on Tripadvisor and similar - and never get round to it! Yet I do read the reviews, and often find them helpful. Perhaps I should get my act together and start writing - or at least responding!

For me it's a sort of karmic balance. I take their reviews and I give some back. I've had some fantastic 'finds' on TA.

I try not to look at response level as to avoid disappointment when no one reads something you put time and effort into.

It can be nice to know that people take the time to read what you've written. It's a good feeling.

It doesnt phase me - I write to get things off my chest - if people read then its a bonus for me.

I just write the reviews. I'm not fussed if people then take note of them. I did have to add a venue on Tripadvisor last week because it didn't exist and I had a REALLY BAD review I wanted the world to read!

If I post about something other than music, I tend to get a lot more readers. Which is fine, since I pretty much write about music for my own enjoyment. If someone likes it,great, but I get a lot less readers.

What is there to worry about if others do not read it? Why should you feel discouraged? Try to improve it a little bit on a higher scale. I do not understand why you are not being paid for your reviews.
