Made me curious

I know. None 'my bidness. And yes I know about emotional support animals. Still I wonder about it. I walked out of the grocery store. A lady walked into the store- carrying a cat carrier in her left hand as she headed in. I saw a white Persian cat sitting within the mesh and canvas toter. How can that cat emotionally support the lady from within that kitty tent? Maybe its her or his presence. Allowed in an otherwise hopefully clean food emporium. I still wonder what was up.

My local Ace hardware lets dogs in the store. Once I saw someone with a puppy in their shopping cart at the grocery store but once someone noticed they were asked to leave.

@Jessicalynnt That's a tough one. Since I think I may be allergic to certain dogs, I really don't want saliva flecks and dog dander in a place that's normally supposed to be clean. But I can understand wanting to take a friend with you.

The lady had an attachment to this animal. Sometimes we are unable to see the emotional support something gives because we do not live inside that person's psyche. I would wonder if, in this heat, how safe that 'tent' is for the cat.

@sallypup ....Yes, indeed. My daughter has been keeping the cats inside during the day because of the heat. Today we have to turn them out because of the exterminator coming.

@celticeagle I hope you have some where to go while the exterminator spreads his poison.

@celticeagle The heat is for sure a consideration. We're not walking our dogs in the heat. Imagine what the sidewalks must feel like to their bare feet.

it's possible she was visiting a vets as well as the grocers though some people take their cats around like pet dogs which gets silly

Yup and from what I understand it has gotten crazy on flights, how do you use a snake or a parrot as a support animal?

@BelleStarr Maybe the parrot could be of use as a support animal but a snake? Got to think on that.

@Rohvannyn Great premise for a story.

That is odd. Was it labeled "service cat." Perhaps they were there for a cat food demonstration? Are cats too independent to be supportive?

@JamesHxstatic Just a kitty carrier similar to what arrived with the cat we took in from Craigslist. When I've raised a feline he or she is not aloof- frightened to be out in the world in a carrier but when home, not aloof.

Maybe she was bringing the cat to someone who worked there?

@CRK109 Good question. She walked right into the produce section like she knew her way around.

That does indeed make me wonder. Maybe she could sit and pet the kitty when feeling distressed?

That's strange - I don't think she'd have got away with it in the UK, food places are really strict about animals not being allowed in

I wonder how the cat feels shut up in that thing and being supportive to the woman

@Mike197602 Good question. Did they get the cat's permission to do such a job?

Generally support animals are well trained so that they behave themselves and don't cause an issue in places like that (there are the rare exceptions that maybe haven't been as well trained or haven't yet completed their training). Any kind of animal can be a support animal, too! You want a support turtle? You can have one! It's not always the assistance of the animal that helps (though obviously there are many that serve this function too), but often just the presence of the animal being there helps. Think about it. Have you ever had a pet? Have you ever been upset or stressed and your pet has come to sit with you and it helps you feel better? Even though your pet isn't a service animal you can still feel the benefit. It does make me glad to know that you didn't go up and ask the woman about it, which is usually the worst thing you can. Go you! You'd be amazed how many people don't realise how harmful and actually just plain rude that can be.

@Stitch95 I have lived with fur persons since I started walking and probably before. I have heard of guide birds instead of guide dogs or dog guides- however that is correct to say these days. Maybe the guide bird was a joke? Yes, all species of fur persons have helped me. A canary sang as I had labor pains and one of our felines saved me from burning the house down. Still I wonder. I've also heard of guide dogs that were not trained as they were supposed to be.
