Nearly most of us know that we're better off not caring about what others think about us.And , from time to time we often use this line "I don't give a damn about what you think of me/I don't care" , but we all know that's not entirely true and more often than not we do care what is others opinions about us. Why is so hard to not care about others opinion in reality ? We would be a lot more happy if we didn't.

I don't find it hard to not care. I don't have emotional attachments to people so their opinions don't matter to me. It is harder for me to get emotional involved with people no matter who they are. What a stranger thinks doesn't change how I see myself or how I see other things. I am happy with myself, physically and emotional so why would their opinions bother me. I was always told that whatever someone says about you it's just how they see themselves. I don't let others negativity bring me down.

I think you're in minority here then. For a lot of us , emotional apathy is very hard to achieve. Something to do with humans being a social animal.

@wronganalog I'm not very social. I spend most of my time outdoors and with animals than I do with people. My family is about the only people I stay around and then I bare;y speak to them. I normally just sit in the same room and read. At college my social time is sitting in a room with about two or three other people and us not speaking to each other.

That is true to a varying degree. There are some public opinion we do value but when its not someone who's ideas we value then we dismiss it but when its a parent or employer their opinion usually matters because it affects us.
