Onions or not?

Beijing, China
August 2, 2016 1:32am CST
Yesterday, I invited some firends to my home for supper, they came from different countries and regions. Some of them like the smell of onions, and they preferred to eating dumplings with onions, but others hate it a lot, they felt disgusted when getting access to the onions. And we have some arguments in this question. So I wonder how many people like onins, and if it is correlated to the genes or the human race?

I like onions for their health benefits, I suffer when I eat them, but, if I chop them well and add to the salad, the salad tastes all right. Fried onion is tasty, but, I prefer it raw. It gives me tears XD. When fried, the onion adds a really good taste to the food: we eat it with rise and beans, with rice and lentils, and more.

@Mitsui_Yang Not if one knows how to combine them in food. My cousin used to eat whole raw onions when he was a child. I couldn't understand it. When I make a salad, I know I'm going to suffer from the onions for a while :-) I don't know how to combine the onion in a salad.

Onions related to race or genes? What else? I'd suggest the date of birth according to the moon calendar. :-) Why not simply to individual preference?

I have never liked the texture or taste of onions, particularly raw onions. Luckily for me, they give me very slight heart-burn, so I don't eat them! However, the smell of onions cooking in a pan is very nice. I love to smell them cooking, but still wouldn't eat them even when cooked.

Onion adds flavor and taste to food. It is also good for health. Although there are customs in some religions where eating onion and garlic is not welcomed. Some people don't like the smell. So it depends I guess.

I like onions but it depends on the food. With dumplings definitely. They often add an interesting taste AND texture. It also depends on how the onions are cut and cooked. Texture has a lot more to do with taste and preference than most people care to realize. But in the end it's your home and you should cook as you see fit (within reason of having guests of course). Always have a back-up dinner plan. For instance don't put the onions in before hand.

Onions are loaded with many chemicals that keep you away from illness and also make you glow due to their detoxification properties...
