This is a lesser known song than others I've written about. Janiva Magness has clearly earned her right to sing the blues. She was born in Detroit Michigan in 1957. She went into the foster care system when she was a young child, after she lost first her mother, and later her father to suicide. After moving from foster home to foster home, she became pregnant at the age of 16. She signed papers to become an emancipated minor, and gave her child up for adoption. Magness has said that she didn't find music, music found her. The music of Otis Rush drew her to the blues, and in it, she found her salvation. Nothing in her life had spoken to her as this music did; it helped to soothe her wounded spirit. She truly found her calling in singing the blues. Known for her smoky, sultry voice, Magness received seventeen Blues Music Award nominations, the most recent one for 2012's Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year. When I first saw the video below, I just could not stop playing it. I hope you enjoy it too. I might bleed, but I won’t cry

Best blues song I've ever heard although It's not the genre I hear often. Singing's probably better than crying.
