Day 141 Psalm 120 Psalm 120:1 < In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. 2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. 3 What shall be given unto thee? Or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? 4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. 5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! 6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hates peace. 7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. Often times we find ourselves in situations where the people around us don’t have the same values we do. They are antagonistic while we only want to live in peace and feel safe and secure. We don’t want everything we say to become an argument that leaves us feeling hurt, depressed, and angry. It was hard for the psalmist living in exile, far from his native home, surrounded by people who knew nothing about God and every mention of God brought fierce anger from his captors. His sole purpose was to be able to praise and worship God in peace and safety, but that would not be. As Christians, we can still find time alone, even surrounded by those who hate and disavow God, to give him praise and worship. We know that when we cry out to him and meditate on his Word, he will hear us and he will help us. Our hope isn’t found in the circumstances surrounding us. Our hope is found in Jesus Christ. We can take all our petitions to him and he will make a way through the most difficult situations and give us cause to rejoice. It’s time to let the world know we aren’t going to allow them to dictate our lives. It’s time to let our faith rise up and declare the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ, even if it means harm to our mortal bodies. Let the peace of Jesus Christ rule your life, no matter what the world looks like around you. Let’s pray: Father, help me stand on your promises of protection and safety in a world that will not recognize you. Keep me safe from all harm and let my enemies know I have nothing to fear from them because you are in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
