Avocados are Bad For Health? Of Course Not!

Avocados From my Garden

A cousin in-law saw me eating avocado and she worriedly said I should not eat this fruit because it contains cholesterol and very high amount of fat. I know for sure that this is not true because bad cholesterol is only found in animal and although avocado contains fat it is a good fat called monounsaturated fat, that may actually help lower blood cholesterol levels. So I told her to forget about her wrong belief because avocado is actually one of the healthiest fruits as it is very rich in fiber, Vitamins B K, C, copper potassium and fiber. It good for the heart and brain as well. But of course as in all foods, the rule of the thumb is to always eat in moderation. I'm glad she believed me so I gave her some avocados from my garden.

I think all veg and fruit are good for us as long as we don't eat too much of them!

Actually many vegetables are like this: The more you eat, the more you will lose weight. A good example is cucumber.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I don't really like cucumber but I do drink fresh cucumber juice each morning all because I know how healthy it is.

Avocados are popular in the US because its their healthy version of mayonnaise. I had seen many restaurants in the US that uses guacamole instead of mayonnaise for burgers, salads and hotdogs.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I have not tried that, but I don't eat ham actually but perhaps I can substitute tuna meat instead of ham.

@salonga I am sure they find it weird we use it for desserts. Speaking of savory avocado, It works well with ham and cheese! Avocado, Ham and cheese wrapped in lumpia wrapper, fried or baked till perfection is awesome.

@CaptAlbertWhisker I do actually add condensed milk sometimes to make a wonderful dessert although not always because that will make me fat if I eat a lot. I prefer eating it all alone by itself.

She is not well informed on its health benefits . It's a good thing , you told her the true health benefits . Or could it be that she likes to have the avocados for herself.

You are perfectly right, avocados provide a healthy type of fat, they are tich in oleic acid, a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. It seems that an avocado a day can significantly lower your cholesterol.

Avocado tree is very common in the Philippines. Here I took a photo of one of my avocado trees unfortunately it is standing against the broad sunlight so the photo did not come up as clear as I wanted it to be. And also one of my pomegrate trees can be seen at the foreground. The big tree at the background is one of my two avocado trees.

From what I've read the fat contained in avocados are considered "good fat", which is why they're recommended to be given once babies reach the age when they can start eating solids. I love avocado juice, especially with chocolate topping!

Yes it retains the green color even when ripe, we call this Everygreen variety which is actually the best variety.

@shshiju Not a hint of sourness in it and not sweet either. But it is so creamy and a bit chewy and so divine by itself so that when some condensed milk is added it becomes even more heavenly. But of course the fruits must be harvested when already mature or else it will not taste as good. There are different varieties and some are not as good as the Evergreen variety.

The fat in them can be a little overwhelming if you eat them too much, but over all they are really healthy. Anything can be "unhealthy" if eaten too much. I remember getting sick from eating too man apples because the skin does not digest well. Wow...I am really craving an avocado at the moment now. Haha!
