Manipulative...(4)

I am noted to be punctual, or arrive earlier than the scheduled time. Yesterday, I arrived at 6:38 AM, and there were no students yet. They should be in the lobby of the hospital between 6:45 to 7 AM. 7:01 to 7:15 is already considered late, 7:16 onward, absent.
The 2 male students arrived at 6:43; the remaining 5 ladies arrived at 7:02 AM. I could not hide my disgust and dismay because they were "walking under the moonlight" (strolling). I berated them right there and then.
I was informed of that group by the level coordinator that they are manipulative. I said to them, "Don't manipulate me because I can be more manipulative than you".
I told them to submit to me incidence reports, (each of them), and I also gave them patients-one cancer-stricken patient each. 3 of them gave chemotherapy, one with blood transfusion. I was always there to supervise them, but I showed them that I was really disappointed with their tardiness.
Aside from the IR, I told them to submit to me (at the last 30 minutes of their duty) their logbooks on reflective statements (learning feedback diary) and skills and procedures they learned in the area.
How do you deal with manipulative persons?

@salonga now, when they see me, it is as if their tails are cut off and they show humility, at least as how i see it.

i always tell them that i am like their mother, so showing disrespect to me is already disrespecting their own mothers

indeed my lady. we have to show them what is expected of them by leading, but the children nowadays don't heed to our advice and do their own thing

@ridingbet Right, I understand all that, I just didn't understand how being late was manipulative. Careless and disrespectful, yes. It sounds as if you have your work cut out with them.

@jaboUK it is not only being late, manipulative in all aspects. the group presented their case this morning, and they still showed manipulation by telling us their CI's to delay the start of the activity because 3 of the members are not yet in. i was there in school at 6:45 AM, and i reiterated that they should be early, but they are hard-headed; they don't listen.

They are manipulative not only in their attendance but also in their responsibilities in the ward. They should develop their sense of initiative and assertiveness and be confident.it is their third time to be rotated in the area and yet they are so dependent on their CI's when they should do their tasks, like getting clean gloves.they request me to get for them.that is manipulation. Even in preparing medicines, they tellme there are no syringes when there are so many at the nurses station. This is the same complaint of the other Ci's

oh, if only it is allowed to tell them to go home, but it is not possible because they might not go home directly but go around gallivanting.

@crazyhorseladycx indeed, the youth of today is so far different from the youth of yesteryears

yes that is so true. they were just casually walking as if under the moonlight while i was there staring at them; no hurry at all, and that made me angry.

no, they are serious into becoming nurses, but it is in their attitude to come late, a Filipino trait that should be changed for the better

It might be one of those things we can't change in people and we just have to avoid them if we can't. That is not always possible.

right. but since they are students, they need proper guidance and so their horns should be cut short, and their taiols cut shorter as well

true, but the time they should be in the area should be 6:45 to 7 AM; 7 to 7:15 is considered absent. good if i don't come early, but that is one positive attitude that i want them to develop. punctuality
