Gentleman Jim. Oh, what a voice. If you noticed (and, based on the appreciation of the Marty Robbins song I posted earlier, you did notice), country singers "back then" were a completely different lot. Today it's all about looks and personality and "image." Back then, it was about talent. And yes, I'm prejudiced. Here's the next song in my look at my favorite Reeves songs. #7: Good Morning Self Every now and then you have to have a talk with yourself to convince yourself of something, to sort things out, or for whatever other reason. Here Reeves sang of talking to himself for a different reason: his love has left him. And, since he caused the argument that split them ("what made you say the things you said to your darling last night?"), he's chewing himself out. Well, that's the gist of the song. It sounds better when Reeves delivered it. Good Morning Self Written by Jimmy Key From Distant Drums, 1966 Number seven on the list:

I honestly don't know. It may well have been, because they were based in Texas and Jim was from Texas. However, there was also a publisher in Nashville named Jimmy Key who was credited with discovering Tom T. Hall.
