In honor of the 39th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley it's time for a new countdown. Two, actually: per @JohnRoberts ' request I'll do 25 Elvis songs, but I'm also going to do ten songs that are explicitly or implicitly about Elvis. #10: Elvis is Everywhere - Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper I met this guy once. He's exactly what you see in public. Now retired, Mojo (ne Neill McMillan Jr.) and his "percussionist" Skid Roper had a string of silly, profane ("Stuffin' Martha's M****n," about having sex with MTV VJ Martha Quinn), and sometimes controversial ("Don Henley Must Die"...which Henley actually got on stage and performed with Nixon one night!) "talks" over music. I mean, there's really no way to call this "singing," and he wasn't even keeping time with rhythm so you can't call it talking blues or rap. He spoke his mind. He still does, courtesy of a daily show on Sirius/XM's Outlaw Country channel. "Elvis is Everywhere" was Mojo's biggest "hit," such as it was. Funny ("Elvis is inside of Joan Rivers but he's trying to get out!"), it pokes fun at the over-the-top adoration of Elvis ("we're all moving toward perfect peace and Elvis. Why do you think they call it 'evolution' anyway? It's really Elvis-lution!") that was quite prevalent when this song came out (there were a slew of people claiming to be "Elvis love children" in the mid-80s). It's funny. Elvis had quite a sense of humor (he played Don Bowman and Homer & Jethro albums a lot), so he probably would have appreciated this.
