I just went out shopping for groceries and near the gate are these three totally adorable kittens! They are free for adoption apparently. But I'm so unsure if I should take one. I've only ever had dogs as pets. I've heard cats are really clean...but its still a responsibility. Maybe I should wait...get one when I'm more sure. Right guys? What do you think?

Certainly pets are a responsibility but they are great company too. We only have a pet sheep now who is no trouble at all. We go away from time to time and he is easy for someone else to keep an eye on.

@ms1864 He has a paddock and a shed for shelter. Because he is getting older we give him some sheep pellets each day now.

I am a cat lover. I have had cats all of my life. Those kittens are adorable! I would not have been able to resist bringing all of them home. They are a lot of responsibility so you have to be sure that you want to make a commitment before you decide to bring one home. When I get a pet it is their forever home. I don't know how people can have pets and then just give them away after awhile. Cats are very independent and much less work then dogs but they are great company too. I think you would enjoy having a kitty around but just don't bring it home on an impulse. Think about it and if you decide you want a kitty then go out and get one! You won't regret it! :)

yeah...i have decided to wait...but those kittens are getting adopted by people in my colony. So I guess I can wait and get one from a pet store when its right.

I would say don't get one unless you are ready. Cats are sweet pets, but yes you have to want to be their mommies, even though they seem independent. You have to feed them, give them affection when they want, and get their shots and all. And keep them from getting run over. If you want to do those things then by all means, get a kitty. Or two so they have each other to play with.

Yes, it is a responsibility too. But when you had decided, just adopt one as your pet.

@ms1864 kinda? they dislike sticky tape immensely. don't hurt 'em none, but teaches 'em the countertops, dinin' tables'n the like 're off limits. some folks keep a spray bottle with water handy fer such, but that aint very effective when yer sleepin' 'r off'n 'nother room.

I think you have to be very sure you have the time to spend with the kitten and the money to provide for its food and veterinary care. If not, then it is not wise to adopt a kitten.

They are more independent. You can leave cats alone for a few days, with enough water, food, and a litter box...and they will get along just fine. With dogs, you can't. But for the record...I prefer dogs too.

Having a cat as pet is far less work than having a dog. You don't have to walk a cat in the rain.

I know this is from August, so did you get one of the kittens. Cat really are easier to take care of than dogs. You have to cat stay inside and they are very smart in learning their litter box and you do not have to walk them 3 times a day.

@ms1864 I understand. Even though they are easier than dogs it is still a responsibility. I am glad they were adopted.
