The Easy way or the Hard Way?

I am sure at some point in your life you heard the quote, “we can do this the easy way or the hard way”. Usually the person being asked wants nothing to do with either option, but I got to thinking, does anyone ever pick the hard way? Life is hard enough as it is without making it harder. What have you done recently with an easy way or a hard way? Did you know there was an easy/hard way too? Which did you pick? Why?

If there are 99 ways to do a thing right, and one of doing it wrong, guess which is usually tried first... :)

sometimes I think I am doing something easy then realize halfway through there were much easier ways that never occurred to me!

I think most of us pick what we think is the easiest way out of something. But often the way that seemed to be the easiest turns out to have been the hard way all along. If we had chosen the one that we thought would take more time energy and cost turns out to have been the easy way all along :D

I chose the hard way when I decided to teach Research Methods a could of years ago. I knew I needed a new challenge at the College where I teach. I chose the easy way when I decided to miss about half of the softball games for the two teams I play for this Summer. I had too much going on with music, and didn't want to burden myself with another obligation.

Thought-provoking post. As we get older and stiffer we're always looking for easy ways but mostly it's to do with physical stuff. I guess sometimes I'll give in to a person's idea rather than have a big fight about doing it the way I think it should be done.

@Jessicalynnt Easier for me - and just very occasionally the chance to feel REALLY smug when 'my' way turns out the best.

I prefer doing things the easy way but most of the time it's the hard way. It isn't easy thinking out of box. Sometimes I wish I have learned things in life without doing much effort.

@meowch What do you mean by "learned things in life without doing much effort" ? Is there anything we can learn without putting an effort? I don't think anything worthwhile would come free of effort.

I think that if everything was easy we'd never learn, but I do think I could certainly handle alot more easy

Well, it depends on what is the right way. If the right way is the easy way, I will definitely choose that path. If hard way is the right way, then I have to choose the hard way.

@Jessicalynnt It happens a lot. I have seen so many people choose the easy way, which is the wrong way. I am just trying not to be like that.

you have a very good point, sometimes the hard way IS the right way, and the easy way is wrong somehow

@Jessicalynnt lol, you are right, he is working now on his tablet, here not far from me, and he is making a mess only to copy some files from his computer using the Wi-Fi. Why not to use a USB key? Too simple I suppose.

That's an awesome question that deserves a long winded answer, ha ha! I've been reading lately about developing hardihood, about purposely picking the hard way for things. Like Theodore Roosevelt, "choosing the Strenuous Life." The two "hard way" things I've done recently are both related to health. One, I've decided to get up a half hour early and take a walk most mornings. Oddly, that "hard way" seems to make the rest of the day go more easily. Two, I started ending my hot showers with a cold blast to really wake myself up. But that's kind of fun so I don't know if it's the hard way. Honestly, many times if you take the hard route, you will just end up having an easier time later on.

true, by doing something the hard way you might get stronger, faster, learn more, sometimes though hard is synopsis with stupid, lol

It depends, if it can be done with easy way, I would for sure do it the easy way and not the hard way.

I say that to my kids. Easy way=my way, hard way=consequences for not doing it my way :) And of course they have chosen the hard way at times.

I'm not very good at problem solving or organizing really... so I often choose what I think is easy.... and someone comes along and says .., why didn't you do it like this.... it would have been much easier and quicker...?? but sometimes it is better to choose to take a bit longer to do something a slightly different way which may appear harder ... but in the long run is much better for what you want....

I thought I was taking the easy way to church this morning. It turned out to be the hard way as I got lost getting there.
