Nature's Window, Kalbarri, Western Australia

A few days into our trip north to see the wildflowers we came to the seaside town of Kalbarri. On the way we stopped off to view the cliffs which is the first of the photos on the slideshow. We camped at a truck bay and met two delightful French girls who were both called Fanny and travelling in a hire campervan. We shared a camp-fire with them and also with a Dutch and a Swedish girl who were sleeping in a station-wagon. Next morning we drove into the national park and walked several hundred metres to Nature's Window, a naturally-formed icon of the area. Vin also explored the gorges and took some great photos. Other photos include a fancy mobile barbecue which the owner doesn't want stolen and some attractive fungi. We also saw Western Australia's emblem the black swan on the Murchison River which runs through the gorges.

@judyev That scenery is stupendous - well done to Vince and his camera. All I could think of though was all the snakes lurking in the bush - I'm really going to have to do something about my phobia!

@JudyEv I know that in theory, but putting it into practice is another thing! I had a few very bad experiences with serpents in India but lived happily with snakes all over the place for 8 years in Africa.

@xFiacre I keep forgetting phobias are phobias and can't be dismissed easily. Luckily I don't think I have any unless it's for cold showers. They freak me out.

We didn't see one snake. They really are more scared of us than we (well, some of us anyway) are of them.

@JudyEv Tee hee- you have some beautiful shots there Judy- I'd love to know how to make slide shows like you---is it a particular camera? I'll have to try the now famous stodge- I'll try it early -for breakfast and it won't matter if it's too hot---

The Nature's Window is very popular and everyone likes to have their photo taken sitting under it. There were quite a few people there but everyone took turns and strangers would offer to take the photo so a whole family or group could be in the picture.

@crazyhorseladycx You should have taken it as a given. :) Don't make the visit too short as there is a lot to see. Don't bother with the Eastern states - West is best.

I would like to see the Murchison in winter but usually the unsealed roads are closed in winter.
