Perhaps it will be a good idea to make tablets for the elders

We visited grandma on Saturday. After I was home, I thought about how to make her feel less boring there. Then I thought out buying a tablet for her. I bought a 12" tablet this morning. I will download some very old TV series, movies and songs and then my grandma can watch it from the tablet. Everything should be very simple, otherwise I am afraid she doesn't know how to use it. I will just install Mxplayer for her to watch the videos. And a MP3 app to listen to the old songs. Perhaps I will download a Mahjong game for her to play. That's all. It is good enough for the elders to use.

Yes, that is a good idea. I think they should learn from McDonald's in this respect. McDonald's re-design the ordering system so that the icons appear large, and the old workers can see it clearly. I think that is a very elder-friendly workplace. if the computer companies can do that for a fast food restaurant, they can do it in tablet for old people.

Here the McDonald's even have the rice food besides the hamburgers. They can adjust to different diet in different countries.

Yeah, it's a good way to enrich the life of elderly people, the market also should launch some unique tables with more humanized design to satisfy the elders' requests and needs.

I am very disappointed that my grandma doesn't want it. Sighing... I even don't buy a tablet for my son. Now it seems to be a waste since I already bought the tablet.

@youless Maybe your grandma need more communications with her children, take more time to accompany her.

Yes, I agree with you, and tablet is easier for them to learn how to use too. I remember I tried hard to teach my dad how to use the computer, so he might be able to go online. He did not manage to learn it. But once he got an iPad, he learned how to use it very fast. Now, he is using the iPad everyday.

@youless Not really, I just think it's easier to use the iPad. Moreover, perhaps we were not at home to teach him how to use computer, so he rarely practiced it himself even though I have written down step by step how to turn on the computer. With iPad, he can carry it around and easier to ask others whenever he doesn't know how to do something.

To my disappointed, my grandma doesn't want it. Perhaps she doesn't think it is too boring in the hospital?

My nephew bought my father a tablet . He taught him how to do it but i think my father cannot memorize anymore the way of operating it because he deletes some picture and apps after using it .

This is a good idea because you are making her to be update with what technology has to offer. And still if you show at least the basics,I guess she can still make it to grasp something and what's more she is lucky to have you. Kudos for trying to spice her up.

In fact it doesn't matter that my grandma can't update with the new technology. I just want her to have a good time in the hospital. As the TV is not clear there. And you can imagine how boring it will be to stay there all the time as a patient.

You are very considerate of this. It is really very convenient for people of all ages to use a Tablet. I am sure that your grandmother will have a lot of fun using it and will get excited about it when she knows she can have so much fun out of this cool stuff.

I set three apps on the tablet screen only. I delete the rest from the screen so that my grandma may feel it easier. Right now I am downloading Cantonese Opera and she will like it
