The keyboard from hell

My keyboard is throwing fits. Sometimes I can't type the '!' but right now I can. Earlier I couldn't type the '1' or the '!' - but at this particular moment all keys are working. Do they know I'm writing about them? A few days ago I took the laptop out to the workshop and my husband used the air compressor to blow the dust (or Evil Spirits) out and it seemed fine for a day. Then it went nuts again. I am big on '!'s so it's annoying when it sticks. I guess I will have to find a computer shop in town and let them figure it out. Or maybe it's just time for a new one. That leads to new issues, I'm still using Windows 7 and really don't want to go to Windows 10 with that whole learning curve thing, I'm old and not sure I have the patience. Do not switch to WIndows 10, it's a real pain. I turned the keyboard upside down and I tapped the back, it works better than blowing air. There is a lot of stuff stuck among the keys.

@AbbyGreenhill I removed the keyboard from my laptop to clean it, it was a hard job. My husband has a laptop with Windows 8.1, but for the desktop he has installed Linus, he had enough of Windows 10.

they are going to stop supporting Win 7 soon and then we'll be left open for all kinds of issues. This is a laptop so not the same as a separate keyboard. My husband blew the dust out with the air compressor he uses for the car, etc. I might have to get him to try it again. Right now he's cleaning the pool - lots of leaves from all the wind/rain/storms the last few days and we're having lots of company tomorrow.

Mine has been cleaned before - so I think it just is getting worn out. I could put an exclamation earlier, now I can't.

Windows 10 doesn't look that difficult, it is told to be between the 7 and the 8. Well, I would go back to XP if I could. An external keyboard looks like the only solution. I would never want to change my laptop because of a key.

@AbbyGreenhill You only have a key to fix, so it shouldn't cost much. But newer laptops are more powerful, that's why I would never say no to a new one. Then I'll have to get used to the new OS, and I will. No problem. My mother has a Win10 laptop, there are a few things I don't understand, and my lappie is a Win8.

This computer is about 5 or 6 years old. I would buy a new one depending on how much it would cost to 'fix' this one. I've heard conflicting stories about difficulty of W10. I have no clue what 8 is like, I use 7.

That is frustrating when keyboard keys act up. That has happened to me in the past.

As long as I stay away from the number one key and the explanation mark it's fine.

@AbbyGreenhill It sounds like your keyboard and my keyboard are kissing cousins or something like that. Right now it is having a good day, so far. Later it will be acting up. It does sound like it's about time for a newer, younger model.

Well, if it can be fixed at a reasonable price I'll go that route. We have to hit the pool store and there is a computer repair shop next door to it. I'll see how that goes.

I have Windows 10 and it really isn't all that different. It takes no time to get use to. There may be still something stuck behind that key. Turn it upside down and give it a few taps. I would be lost too if my "!" didn't work. It is one of my favorite keys. Since you are big on "!" maybe you wore it out. lol

@Happy2BeMe At least then I'd have a good excuse to buy a new one.

@JudyEv I don't want all the 'fancy' stuff..I want it to look like my W 7 screen and I know you can do it but they never show you how to. My husband's 'fix' isn't working any longer..oh well.

I have issues with the laptop keys sticking. It's not an easy fix like replacing a keyboard. I just live with it!
