1964 – Roy Orbison gets on the Billboard chart with “Pretty Woman” and the song stays in the top spot for three weeks. That same year The Honeycombs came out with “Have I the Right”. 1970 – Edwin Starr made it on the Billboard singles chart with “War”. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. 1987 – Los Lobos had a number one single with the remake of “La Bamba” originally sung by Ritchie Valens. 1992 – Billy Joel did a remake of an Elvis song “All Shook Up””. The song was featured in the soundtrack for the movie “Honeymoon in Vegas”. http://www.classicbands.com/day/august%2029.html

I am a Roy Orbison fan, just rediscovered him lately although I know pretty woman the movie quite well. I did not know that he sang " blue bayou" when i thought Linda Rondst was original, more songs I am discovering like California and dreams, he was much ahead of my time I had spun my motown record thousands of times with " war" when I was in 6th or 7th grade. La bamba appealed to our Spanish heritage but it was more of the Richie Valens version As for billy, i loved that song something about women

A great many of Orbison's songs inspire me when I create poetry @louievill

@RasmaSandra oh really? I think it's because Roy wrote songs based on what he truly experienced in his life and he sang it like no other except Roy Orbison
