I Have a Kiwicha Plant in the Garden

There are so many really unusual plants here in Manitoba, or I simply never noticed them before. One that really caught my eye is called a Kiwicha.. I don't know if they come in any other colors, but this particular one is ruby red. Apparently it is from a very old family of plants that have been around since the Aztects and really good for you. They even added the seeds to a hot pan and they popped just like popcorn. Never expected that!! I definitely want to try to harvest the seeds and plant more of them. They're gorgeous!!

a beautiful plant 'n quite good fer ya. i use amaranthus flour quite oft'n my gluten free bakin'. reckon i ought to gimme some hole seeds 'n pop me some since i can't partake'n popcorn, eh?

I see it's an amaranthus. We have amaranthus here but I'm not sure if it's quite the same. I've never heard of harvesting it.

I wonder if they can grow in the tropics. The idea of an oil free pop corn amazes me.
