The Gerbera Daisy- A Wonderful Flower if It Would Only Stand Up

The Gerbera Daisy is a joy to behold! Huge heads with happy faces and such vibrant colours! I have never seen them growing outside but have potted my spent plant outside once and it did bloom---once! But mostly I keep them inside as they are usually presented to me as a gift plant from some kind visitor. Problem is- they are really eye-catching--- but seem to always, after a while, get sad and bow their heads and then they lose their appeal. I just read on line that if you stick a needle/pin in their stems- about an inch below the head- and draw it back out again---Voila! It stands up straight again after a while, like a little soldier. Well too late now- my Gerbera gift plant is long gone- but I will try this in the future?? Who knows- the trick just may give the plant a new lease on life!

Last year I had planted Gerbera in my garden, you are right that they have such beautiful colors. The Gerbera are of the same family as the sunflowers. The Gerbera grown outside do not have the "head" problem.

It's true- I planted my spent gift-flower once and it bloomed the next year- and then didn't come back after.

True but the Gerbera has a bigger head so it really droops!

Yes, and try that trick if you find them drooping too much! I'm dying to try it myself

The droop usually happens to them when they are indoors as a house plant. I haven't had a chance to check out if that trick works yet though!

I've never heard of that trick Linda, but I've never grown gerberas. A lot of heavy headed flowers need staking to keep them upright.

I never heard of a Gerbera daisy but it will be interesting to see if this trick works if you get another plant

Gerberas are beautiful. I have several artificial ones that I must have picked up from somewhere and I just love them. That's a neat trick about getting them to stand up again. Do you think it will work?
