I can not believe this...

I finally got a hold of an old college friend, who was willing to send me the money through a Walmart MoneyGram, and my apartment manager just told me that she could not accept partial payment. I said: "What partial payment? I am paying you the full rent." She said: "No. Now you owe the $100 late fee. So I have to have both, or you will be evicted." So after going through all that...I still can't pay my rent. Where's the cyanide???

That is just ridiculous. I have never heard such foolish in my life. There is no reason why this should be happening. They sound very difficult to work with. I could not rent from them.

I have no choice because I signed a lease, but won't be signing another one. I never knew they acted like this, or I would not have signed one in the first place.

@sharon6345 - I can't until the lease is up. My lease says that if I break it, I have to pay a two month pentalty. I don't have that kind of money.

Are you very late in your payment? Ask her to cut some slack. $100 for a late fee is excessive!

I'm so sorry you've ended up with such terrible landlords. I wonder if there is some place you can go to to report them? Especially if they are slumlords like you state in a comment below. They don't want your rent very bad if they won't take what you have!

I do have plans on reporting them. I just have to take care of this mess first.

that manager sounds like she has already gotten someone else lined up for your place and is trying to set you up to fail

It is not yet fault. It is corporate. They have plenty of empty apartments.

Is the place a very desirable place to rent? I mean, are they able to be so strict because there is a line of people wanting to live there or something? I don't get it. They will run people off with those kind of dealings.

Is there anything you can sell for that $100, or maybe your friend can add $100. Good luck.

OMG! That amount is too much for a surcharge of late payment. Don't worry Karma is on your apartment manager for imposing unjustifiable amount for fees.
