Transportation For This Old Broad

So, yesterday I think it was, I posted a discussion, "Getting Desperate" about trying to find transportation to a medical appointment. Yesterday I called half a dozen places including Medicaid. They won't help me. So I called Care In Homes, talked to a nice lady who gave me some places to call. One was Ship-Go Ride and the woman told me that I have to be 65 and have a disability or be a vet. I told her of my cataract. She said that if I had been termed with 'low vision' or 20/100 in both eyes(basically blind) I would be eligible. That sent me on a three hour adventure trying to contact the medical records for the actual location I had my eye exam with. Finally, that afternoon when I had given up calling some Cameron from an obscurely named place and he told me there was a letter in my file and when I have gotten and sent back a release form he can send that out to me. Called and emailed several and waited to hear back. One guy emailed me and gave me three places to call. First one is Freedom Shuttle and they charge a $5 load fee and then $3 a mile. They will go in with me, make sure I still have the appointment and then come back to pick me up. I may use them. They will be about the same as a taxi but will be sure I get back home. After getting my teeth pulled I will need that added help. So, they will be worth any extra I have to pay above the regular taxi fee. So, after sending out indepth emails to about five Home Care places, calling about fifteen or more places to get into or to obtain info for a place I have found two places that are possibilities and found that the taxi company I like will give me a 10% senior discount. I guess I will be happy with that.

It is so sad to me how hard it is to get the help needed. I went through a ton of mess just to get an OBGYN appointment with someone-it's insane. We should all be able to get the help we need when we need it.

That's true. I wish I had a bigger family here or friends but, I just don't.

I'm shocked Medicaid won't help. I'm glad you were able to find a service that will make certain you get there and get home safely. How far away is your appointment from where you live?

I was too. They are helping with my Medicare Part B. The appointment is 4.2 miles away.

@celticeagle Huh? I was only meaning that if you have to have them pulled, I hope it's as painless as possible.
