Our once a month venture into the store people hate

United States
September 18, 2016 9:06am CST
We don't go to Walmart often, unless we need pool supplies. Other than that we never go more than once a month, and only when we have a list of things to buy. Today's venture to the store people hate was for things like: Deodorant, Nail Files, Tweezers, Flonase (allergies are acting up) and other things that you pay double for at the grocery store. I just entered my receipt into Walmart's "Savings Catcher" program. We don't spend a lot at Walmart so it takes me a while to get a few dollars back using Savings Catcher. It only takes a minute to enter the receipt so if I earn a few cents it is worth it. Do you use the Walmart Savings Catcher Program? Photo: pixabay.com/en/bank-coin-money-pig-piggy-savings-1295580/

I have earned over $40 using Savings Catcher. It's a win/win for Walmart and me. Not everyone hates Walmart.

How long did it take you to get $40? Since we don't go there often I think since I joined (about a year ago) I got back about ten bucks. Right now I have almost 5 in the 'kitty'.

@1creekgirl I understand that, was just wondering how long it took. Today we spent a lot, enough to make the cashier's eyes get big, but that's not our norm so we don't get much, but it's free so what the heck.

@AbbyGreenhill I do most of my shopping there, so it took me about a year. But it's money that I wouldn't have gotten back.

@AbbyGreenhill that's quite the drive! Walmart is 10-15 minutes away. But glad you can get all your supplies within a hour driving distances :) Any other plans for the day?

@infatuatedbby The Walmart is 20-22 minutes - but it's the only store within an hour in any direction where you can buy anything from fruit to sneakers. it's raining lightly so I'm inside - getting ready to put a chicken in the oven.

It's the only store w/i an hour that we can buy almost anything and in summer pool supplies are at the top of the list.

I do shop at Wal-Mart more than once a month. I go there around 4 times a month. I have not heard of the Walmart Savings Catcher Program.

Sign up for it - the more you shop there the more you'll save. We don't buy food there, just things from some of the other departments.

It's really easy. Just sign up at Walmart.com, then scan your receipt with your smart phone. Walmart checks several surrounding stores and if they find an item on your receipt that is lower at one of those stores, Walmart sends you the difference.

I don't use the program but I do go to Walmart once a month like you. I always buy the same items when I do because they are so much cheaper.

I actually don't mind out walmart, it's small, new and never over-crowded since it's off the beaten path in the country.

I used to love to see how much I would get from the Walmart Savings Catcher Program.Just used the last I had accumulated to order something about a week ago. Got here yesterday. My granddaughter used to take us but she moved out of town. Now, with me not driving my daughter just shopped at the Albertson's across the street here close.

it's difficult when you don't have a car. But you did get to use it while you could.

Big Lots has much different merchandise compared to WW. One day they have something, next day something different.

@AbbyGreenhill I love Big Lots smallness compared to Walmart. This particular store seems to have the same stuff every time I go in it. I don't buy food at either store.

I'm not sure that program is available in Canada. I have reached the point where I try to avoid shopping as much as possible. Last week I ran into Walmart to pick up a change of clothes for my grandson...a sleepover with only clean underwear, doesn't quite work with this grandma.....especially after a day in the woods.

Just to go their website and look for the program. It's impossible to avoid shopping, we all need 'stuff', at least we do.

If the savings are worthwhile, it's a good idea to go to Walmart. I did a survey for our local store recently and am hoping my name might be picked out of the hat for a prize.

I do shop at Walmart online once in awhile. I don't know about the Savings Catcher.Sometimes a need pops up that's just tor pricey elsewhere, though. There is a Walmart down in Chico, but it's rare for me to shop in stores anymore. I go to thrift stores and the Dollar Tree with a friend a lot. But other than that, I shop online.

Go to Walmart site and look for 'savings catcher' and sign up. I don't shop at thrift stores, I do donate to the one in town.

It's not at the store - it's online. You enter your receipt number and date and they check it and let you know if you could have gotten items cheaper and you get the different back.

Unfortunately Walmart is the closest place to us so we go for just about every trip to the store unless I know I can get it cheaper at dollar tree.

We don't have stores near us - which I why I buy most things online. But since we had to go to the grocery store and Wallworld is across the road it was easy. Went to the dollar tree for the first time - sure things are only a dollar but they don't have big sizes of stuff. I wasn't going to pay a dollar for 6 tylenol when I just paid Fourteen bucks for 225 tylenol.
