Can bad weather affect the internet?

Perth, Australia

It's really windy here at the moment. Has been all night with some lovely rain. But I swear that whenever the weather is like this, the internet becomes a bit slow. Not majorly slow. I can still tolerate it....kinda lol Trying so hard to make this post longer cause it looks annoyingly bare right now but I don't have anything else to add. So does bad weather affect internet speed?

I think extreme weather conditions could affect the internet speed/connectivity. As other friends have pointed out that it is more likely to happen if it is a broadband/landline connection for internet.

The bad weather can definitely affect the Internet speed, as well as the satellite signal on TV.

Think it does because mine is a wired connection that comes bundled with a landline so it tends to slow down when the weather is bad

I am not an expert on this but I would say that bad weather could affect your internet speed

Yes, specially here in the Philippines.. Super slow internet connection or much worse, no connection. I'm not sure but I think we're the 3rd country who has slowest connection in Asia. Hoping for improvement very soon.

My internet is ADSL, connected to our landline, and there was a period when the telephone wires got messed up. Everything worked fine when the weather was good, but once it started raining my connection went haywire and there were times when I couldn't get online at all. That's not normal though, but it took weeks to get it sorted out.

I think it does if you rely on a landline.

We get our TV reception via satellite and the TV goes on the blink if there is a lot of bad weather. Luckily the internet isn't affected unless the power goes down.

yes. it could be a handful of things, but a big reason is that since its raining, most people stay home and go on the internet causing a lot of traffic on your local area network (LAN) .

apparently not except in exceptional circumstances. maybe a lot of people are staying in because of the weather and it's slowing things down a bit...that's the only thing I can think of.

@Daljinder I would be pushing in mid-air if it happened to me as often as it does to you!

@VivaLaDani13 HAHA! I loose it a lot too. But to keep myself from reacting that way I keep up some reading or writing material up so I stay busy in the time the internet or electricity act stupid.

@VivaLaDani13 Apparently it does not need an excuse to behave erratically. We don't have any bad weather at the moment but still internet has been cut off at least 4 times since I started myLot. That's why I keep disappearing in between.
