I saw these while walking toward the observation tower (which I opted not to climb because it had a swarm of mosquitoes). I thought they were pretty cool so I grabbed a photo.

Do you know how to identify mushrooms, as to whether they are safe to eat or NOT? We have mushrooms sprout up in the middle of our lawn from time to time.

I don't, but I really should take a class on it. We have some edible mushrooms that grow wild here that will fetch up to $20 per pound if you find them and pick them.

@srhelmer, have you already taken a class? They look like Shiitake. I'm also interested to learn about mushroom. I started researching and watched some videos. Currently I have some experiment on growing mushrooms using stem butts and spore prints.

It is better to make sure if they are edible in case you decide to pick them.

I don't take chances like that. I'll buy my mushrooms at the store instead.

Beautiful, but probably poisonous. So, do take a picture but donĀ“t eat it.

Cool for a pic, maybe less cool in a plate. I pick mushrooms every year in the woods, but for the moment, we have not had enough rain for mushrooms in my place.
