Why Americans are great in basketball?

why are Americans always the best when it comes to basketball.i gave a thought about it,and yet don't know the answer.

I think its as popular as Baseball, lots of sponsorship, political willingness and proper training.

I have often wondered that myself. Has the US Olympic basketball team ever not won the Gold? Also, American players do very well financially playing for foreign teams. It may be that basketball is such a part of our culture. My 5 year old grandson just started attending a basketball clinic on Saturdays. He supposed to learn how to handle the ball, some of the rules of the game, etc.
