just wondering, how do you consider someone a friend online. is it based on the frequency you chat? or based on how much you know this person? Or perhaps he/she has sent a postcard to you before? I believe since mylot has been around for so long, a lot of mylotters have online friends on mylot right? what is the criteria to be an online friend/buddy? Image Credit: thinglink.com

I've known some myLot members for years from other sites. We've moved on together from site to site until we ended here. We read each other's posts and also exchange some private information every now and then. Once two online friends sent me a present when I was ill. I've also met two online friends (not the same) in real life. One in London, the other in Jerusalem. Although we liked each other, we didn't stay in contact.

@XinfulThotz Yes, it is. I had an easy start on this site because of the online members I already knew from the site bubblews which closed shop. Nearly all of them moved here. But when I joined bubblews, I also found people I knew from other sites. I began my online life 16 years ago.

I think online friends have the same criteria as they do with in real life friends. You have to have good conversations, they do not need to be everyday but at least at a steady pace. It is a person that you kind of know, or at least know some facts about and you just learn over time. I see everyone on here like acquaintances because we just pop in and out, most don't know my past so they cannot really be considered friends. Even though, I am always up for a meaningful conversation that can last forever. haha!

I have online friends whom I have interacted for ten years or more.. They have been so helpful, understanding and stood by me when I faced problems. Its the same yardstick I apply to offline friendship as well.

How do u even get friends with the other person face to face?Sometimes its the similarity you have between each other, so u connect easily and quick. Sometimes, its how much talks you have and sometimes the quality of talks, isn't it? Kind of the same way for online friends.

I will value the friendship because how much I know this person. Of course a little gift is also a good way to remain friends. Besides, we shall have each other's contact ways, such as address, phone numbers etc.

Basically to me it makes no difference between online or offline, it just depends on how far both parties are willing to take the friendship. I for one am the type who would like to meet up so I try to do that but if the other party is uncomfortable then I will respect their wishes. I have friends that I got to know via online and we've been friends since for about 20 years now

i am here to make some foreign friends by mylot. in fact the facebook and twitter are not allowed in China. so this is the only way to make foreign friends online . i just think it wonderful to have conversations with friends all over the world, even if we dont know much about each other. different friends come with defferent cultures.

Friendship is built on shared experiences and shared interests. You get to know people a little better and talk more often. There is no 'one thing' that makes a person a friend.

For me an online friend is someone you have common interests with and that you can chat with about anything.

I wouldn't say I have a specific criteria. I consider friends to be anyone I interact with online at least occasionally. I have SEVERAL online friends to be honest, some whom I remain in contact with frequently throughout the day every day.

@XinfulThotz Yes I've been on a pretty interactive game for about a year, which is where I have had the luck of meeting them so we keep in touch through our game, we're close like family and as well an instant messaging app on our phones.

"a friend in need is a friend in deed" When you ask for help when you need help your friends will offer to help. Your enemies will laugh at you.

Frequency of chat can recognice people... When you are communicating with that person...we can get to know each other. may be someday we can meet them in real life as well. I also have such a nice girl here...
