Grunts AKA Thanks, Hon!

My husband is a preacher and for many years was a negotiator and president of his Union at work. But do you think that trait of verbosity translates to our communication? Ha! I've learned over the years (and they are many) that when I serve our dinner, if it looks good, he says, "Uhhh.' If I don't hear a grunt, he doesn't complain, but neither do I hear "Uhhh." I know some of you women are thinking, "That's the last meal I'd ever cook for him!" I probably have given the wrong impression of my husband. Even though he's not big on articulate compliments, he and I have wonderful, meaningful conversations. Just not usually at dinner time. Photo is my husband and myself with our grandsons in Charleston SC.

First of all that picture is so nice . You and your husband is sow sweet . It seems you and your grandsons have same way of being sweet while walking . As to that of your husband saying Uhh . I think most men aren't that expressive in word with what they feel . Just take a look at how he eats with gusto what you have cooked and you will know that he finds it delicious .

That's so cute. Maybe the reason he doesn't verbalize much at dinner is because of all the communicating he does during the day...

He's retired now although he does preach frequently. I think he was raised not having much conversation at dinner so I understand. He's really a very wonderful husband, we put up with each other!

It must be so difficult for your husband to maintain his position as a human being. We human beings are selfish, sometime we forget to think so. What a big responsibility on his shoulders to be perfect. Our husbands are the light of our house without him it will be a ghost house. You know I have comprised so much in life to make my home a happy home. When the whole family have meals together it is so wonderful. Amen.

@RUBYHAWK That sounds like me and my wife. Having to do a lot of talking all the time in work related ways does tend to make me less communicative at home that I might otherwise be.

Mike and I don't talk much either at dinner time. It was different when he worked but since his retirement we're always together. So when we eat we enjoy the meal. Then talk.

Mine always says, Thanks for the delicious meal, after he's quietly finished reading the paper.

My husband is also not big on complementing but he never complains about anything I cook or do.. Once in a while he will say.. That was so good. I know I have hit bulls eye then.. But like you we have a wonderful relationship and we are sweethearts and best friends.
