I was surprised that an online student of mine was allowed to have computer games at school in China. Let me put it this way, the students are learning IT subject that includes playing computer games. I find it weird or even strange. If I am a parent, I will not allow this kind of course to my child. It seems that they are encouraging the child to be addicted to computer games. What do you think? Image Credit: pixabay.com

I think it depends on the program your student is involved in. Since the student is learning IT it is important to know how the game functions in order to fix whatever goes wrong with it.

I guess it was in their syllabus for the child to know the technical part of computers.

I think it is fine to play computer game in the right time and place. There should be a limitation for everything.

I remember in technology class when I was younger the teacher would give us free time and some of us would play games and surf the web. There's computers in schools so there's no way in preventing a child from playing games there.

I remembered that it is nice to learn how to use a computer and its principles. I think it is good for the child's motor development.

It's not weird or strange at all! Games help people learn in ways that are actually more effective than 'traditional' learning methods, because they use a rewards system and they're actually enjoyable. Not only will the student probably perform better in class, but there's also a great chance that they'll actually retain the information much longer than they would if they were to simply study it for a test. It's also more hands on, and involves doing, instead of memorizing rotely. So that also helps with information retention and engagement, and therefore with performance.

I guess you are right. Students should be aware of how to use the computer and its games. It can be also a good motivator.

A lot of the learning programs involve games. Spelling games, math games. etc.
