Propane Tank Refill Update:
Well, I was expecting and preparing for the worst...our best guess was if the propane tank needed to be filled (80 percent is all they fill it) we would be looking at a rather large bill, well over $600. So when the truck appeared in the driveway I got the checkbook out along with the box of tissues.
As I waited at the kitchen island, prepared to be upset, my husband finally came in with the bill and a horrible look on his face. He said, "Are you ready for this?" I said, "If it's over $600 just shoot me now."
He put the bill down in front of me and the total was ..... are you ready for this.....
$71.26 (that includes a fee of $7.54)
He said our gauge is absolutely accurate and the tank was 69% full. He also said that since we have such a big tank (500 gallons) it takes a long time for the gauge to move. His parting words were, "You won't have to fill it up for two or three years."
Oh happy day, happy day, happy day....

@AbbyGreenhill We use gas both to heat the house, the water and to cook, but we have city gas.

Since we have more than we thought we weren't worried about a leak. Propane use here is more common than north. I was worried at first about using it but it's safe.

that is pretty awesome! I honestly think I'd just set a day each year and have it topped off, so there was never a big bill

We talked about that, we have to wait two years or they would only be putting in about fifteen gallons, which is a waste of their time and ours .... we only used thirty eight gallons in two years. I asked my husband why we used to much more at our last house since we had the same things that were gas, stove, grill and fireplace. He said that our hot water heater was gas an that used a lot of propane.

@AbbyGreenhill that sounds right, we only use it for water, but want to change out the electric burners for gas ones some day.

My sister got good news too, she expected to pay $200 or more for her small tank but they said she would only pay $1.52 per gallon, so its only $125! and she was down to around 20 percent

That's a good price. It's best to get it in summer when it's real hot, cause that's when the prices are really low.
