Native Writers only, Don't bid if English is not your first language; Warnings On Freelancing Market

No matter what they mean by such posts in Freelance writing world, I do fail to understand the stereotype behind such warnings. In what I believe, good command in English or whatever the language and passion for writing should account for who to ditch from your tasks and who to accept. We have native English writers who are good in writing and so do some people from other countries who acquired English in a classroom and polished it into an international level. Oops! We have poor writers in both natives and non-natives too, why the stereotype? In writing, there is nothing like 'where you were born determines how great you can write'. It is all goes with practice, why you have to write, why you need to write and the outcome of your work. Well, I don't know much about it... you may highlight points why they have to warn non-natives from bidding on the allocated tasks. Enlighten me...

Many writers from non-native India are making name in international English writing.

Yep, I have seen lots of non-native writer doing great. I like it when someone would just hire a writer irrespective of where he or she come from.. let professionalism take its course.

This is complete nonsense. It would be wonderful if all native speakers knew and used their native language correctly. If only! An online friend of mine used to collect blunders by native speakers on a different site. What fun we had.

This is more of digital colonization yet we all start from somewhere before we can really furnish our writing in this freelancing world.

I would very much like the answer to that myself.

Something is just not adding up here because why go out looking for freelancers yet you have reservations on the prospective writers.

@Daljinder sad that they only only think that a good writer must be from where the language originated from...

@waflay True! How do they even know without seeing the work of non-native that they are not suitable?

Ah yes...the stereotyping...there are many writing sites doing that. It sure is annoying...in other sites...even if you get in ...the opportunities are so scarce..that making the kind of money that everyone claims to be making is not possible.

That is soo right! Sometimes, you may be allowed to join in as qualified writer but you get a raw-deal just because of where you come from or where you are working from. A few people are willing to hire writers from non-native society and if they do,the pay for your work is way low compared to other writers. Here, quality does not measure how much you are paid but just an overall value based on where you are working from.

Hello, I am also struggling with the same question. There are many sites where people post writing tasks but warn non-natives against applying. I wish someone here in the community would be able to tell us why this is. I have learnt English as a language during my schooling but I feel I am as good as others when it comes to penning down my views. I wish these people would at least have us write samples before they judge. That would be fair to all!!!

We have good guys there who ask for a sample but I guess the busy ones are those who create a barrier that only native could go through. However, one great non-native writer told me to ignore those warnings and bid on any project that I feel comfortable with. I haven't tried this but in I'm gonna try it out the soonest.

@waflay Well, I hope that works out. I myself am wanting to bid on one of these. There is no harm in bidding. By the way, what sites do you use to search for work? I am currently looking on for the work. I have used some freelancer platforms in the past but those do not seem to pay well.
