Note 7 sales ending for good. I'm curious if it will ever make a comeback

The Note series has been Samsung's high-end range of devices, used mainly by businesspeople and those having the financial means of spending 800+ dollars on a phone. Until now, it has never disappointed: best performances, great battery life, the longest period for software updates... I know people who still have Note 2's and are really content of their devices. However, it appears the Note 7 was a major leap... backwards. From what I could read on Flipboard, after the first devices burst into flames and were recalled, now even replacement units, labeled as "safe", have caught fire. So Samsung has decided to stop the production of Note 7 devices altogether. I'm curious whether they will re-launch a different model, possibly re-branded as to dismiss the negative feedback of the current device. It happened before in the electronics industry: the Nikon D610 is essentially a D600 with a shutter that doesn't leak oil and Windows 98 was a slightly re-designed, stable version of Windows 95.
