#4 in my Favorite 80's Jazz Songs series belongs to the only name that appears more than once: David Sanborn's "Run for Cover." David Sanborn has been recording since 1959. He is a six-time Grammy winner, and has eight Gold and one Platinum albums. He is also known for his work with other artists: Sanborn played the saxophone on David Bowie's Young American's album, and The Eagles' song The Sad Cafe." Written by longtime bassist Marcus Miller, "Run for Cover" is an exercise in jazz-funk, too funky for the smooth jazz crowd. I've linked to the version from Sanborn's 1984 live album Straight to the Heart. It's my favorite version.
Album - David Sanborn - Straight from the heart Track 3 - Run for cover

Once again I thought this rang a bell, but now that I've heard - nope!

Not exactly an 80's jazz hit.
