The Favourite Day of my Week

Greece

The favourite day of my week is Monday. It used not to be because, when I was working, Monday was the day I had to get up early and go to work. I did not awake then with any great excitement about the day ahead. Things have changed since I retired. Monday is now my favourite day for several reasons. Friday is a busy day as I want to end the week with all my chores done, the house clean and the laundry washed ironed and put away. Apart from a little gardening I like to be leisurely at the weekend. So I greet Monday feeling rested and ready for action and I feel rather rejuvenated on Monday mornings and excited about the week ahead. My biggest joy on Mondays is that it is Skype time with my daughter in England. We have a routine of having coffee together although miles apart. She goes on line and so do I and it is almost as though I am sitting in the kitchen with her. When I lived in England I think we took one another for granted, we telephoned regularly and from time to time made the long car journey to visit but it was haphazard. Now we have this precious hour once a week and strange though it may be, we feel closer to one another, although physically much further apart, since making our Monday morning call a regular part of our lives.

Now I understand very well because Monday is your favourite day of the week. I think that mine is Tuesday, on Monday I do laundry and I iron, but on Tuesday we usually go out for lunch and to buy our grocery. It's a nice day.

We also have a grocery day but it is not combined with going out for lunch...that must make all the difference.

@41CombedaleRoad There is a nice cafeteria inside the Mall where we go to shop for grocery. It's a moment of relax before shopping. It's not a big mall and it only takes about one hour to finish our shopping for the week.

It must have been hard in the old days when overseas calls were expensive or non existent. We modern expats have much to be thankful for.

No wonder , now that you are retired you like Monday the best . Nothing can compare to the joy of talking with a love one even though it's through the internet . It connects us anyway . I love Mondays too , because it is challenging . I am ready to wake up early by Monday . My eyes are already programmed to sleep early on weekdays .

You have learned to cope well and wake up running on Mondays by the sound of it. Well done.

Grandchildren can be exhausting, so I understand how you must look forward to having a weekend together with your husband, just enjoying one another and taking things easy.

Perhaps with time the reception will improve. I hope so because it does take the edge off being separated.

@41CombedaleRoad We do and I find it so hard to understand mothers and daughter who seem to be rivals instead of allies.

We have discovered all sorts of new interests too. It is partly because for that time at least we are not in a rush or diverted by anything else that may be going on around us.

The week feels much more different when one retires and Monday takes on a new dimension altogether.

This is a wonderful tradition. Most kids don't stay in touch like yours does. You are lucky to have each other and communicate so often.

It is an effort, more on my daughter's part than mine because she is the one with the busy life these days.
