Ear Muffs

For some reason, after discussing headphones, I thought about ear muffs.
I chuckled a bit when I thought of ear muffs.. not sure why though... oh my dirty mind!!!
Anyway, on to the post...
Earmuffs were invented by Chester Grennwood in 1873. He was 15 at that time... talk about being a boy genius! Every first Saturday of December the town of Farmington celebrates 'Chester Greenwood Day' to honor our earmuff inventor. A number of activities are done which culminates in a parade. Everyone in the parade wears earmuffs (but of course) and you would occasionally see a car or two, sometimes even a parade float, with ear muffs on. How cool is that? Way to cool brother!!!
There are basically two kinds of earmuffs... thermal earmuffs, the ones you wear to keep your ears warm, and acoustic earmuffs, the ones that you wear for hearing protection. You know, the kind that you wear in shooting ranges or at work when in loud construction sites. That sort of thing. The earmuffs for sound protection was invented by Thomas A. Willson.
I actually prefer the third type of earmuffs... and I'll leave it at that hence my post be tagged as an inappropriate one. LOL!!!
Anyway, I would have posted a photo of me in the shooting range wearing neon orange ear muffs but like what I wrote earlier, I don't want to offend the sensibilities of the site with my ugly mug!

I did not know what the origin of earmuffs was. Do you shoot a lot? I have not been on a range since I was in the army.

Only recently - past three months or so. It started as a hobby but I'm thinking of taking it more seriously.

Ear muffs were perfect in Las Vegas, as it was cold. I think some of them really look cool and are really warm. Important to wear hearing protection when shooting at the range.

LOL at the dirty mind! Yes, that was the first type of ear muffs I thought of!
Watched a Monster Jam show when they were here in Manila last year, I had a noise cancelling ear muffs which made all the ruckus bearable.

I never wear em, but that's cause I've always got a winter hat on;). Mmmmmm, but sometimes when doing wood working, I wear the hearing protection ones.

Good idea about working protection ear muffs when working, especially if you are using machinery that produces a loud noise.
